We had an AMAZING group of volunteers from the merchandise team at join us at the farm last Thursday! They were super hardworking, helping us add a layer of wood chips to our chicken coop, weeding the whole learning garden + some row crops, and harvesting and cleaning a ton of garlic! Thank you so much, New Seasons merchandise crew!! You’re welcome back anytime 😉
We were thrilled to host Commissioner Lori Stegmann and her Director of Planning and Policy, Layan, at the farm a couple weeks ago! We had a great time wandering through the farm, talking about Thimbleberry’s work, and dreaming up possibilities together. We look forward to crossing paths again soon! 🌱
We had the opportunity to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of last weekend! The entire space is so dreamy, from the beautiful gardens and vineyard to the artfully decorated bed and breakfast.

Our Thai Fire hard neck garlic is ready to be harvested and cured! It is also delicious fresh, and even more pungent and spicy. We’ll save a quarter or so of the harvest for next year’s crop, planting early in the fall for another beautiful harvest.
We have bittersweet news to share! Jonathan, our beloved Education Programs Manager, is moving on to a new adventure and we are hiring to fill his position. He will be sorely missed but we are excited for him and his next chapter, and we are looking forward to welcoming someone new to the Thimbleberry team!
If you love gardening and working with kids, take a look at the position description linked in our bio. Please share widely! We are aiming to fill the position within the next month or so.
Yesterday we lost one of our beloved hens Bok Choy.
Last week she started showing signs of illness and we discovered she had "water belly", a build up of fluid in her abdomen. We were able to make her comfortable in her last days, but the underlying condition progressed quickly and she passed yesterday after a warm bath and snuggles.
Bok Choy was one of our more feisty chickens, and even as a young chick she would lead the other chickens on escapades around the farm. Before building their current run, we would regularly find her outside the run exploring the farm and trying to convince the others to join her. Her rebellious spirit will be missed 💛
Hey all - we’ve got quite a bit of leftover potato seed, free for the taking! Yukon gold, Sangria reds, and a russet variety. Come on by for our volunteer day tomorrow from 9am-noon, stop by our Community Farm Day on June 1st, or send us a message and we can find a time for you to stop by and grab some! These need to go in the ground ASAP!
Our namesake is blooming in our native plant area at the farm!
Thimbleberries are native to the Pacific Northwest and are named so because of their hollow core and resemblance to a thimble. This plant has many uses including making tea from the leaves, eating the edible berries and shoots, and, if you're in a pinch, the leaves can be used as "nature's toilet paper".
You can come see this plant for yourselves at our Community Farm Day this Saturday June 1st from 10am-2pm!
🏐 👩🌾🏓🤸 In honor of International Children’s Day, our next Community Farm Day on June 1 will be a Field Day! Just like the last day of school, when everyone gets to play outside all day, we’ll have a bunch of games and contests ready for you, including volleyball, horse shoes, corn hole, ping pong, hula hoop, egg-spoon racing, minute-to-win-it games, and more! There will be something for everyone, so all ages are welcome and, as always for Community Farm Days, it’s free! You can also take a farm tour with us, try out our gnome scavenger hunt, enjoy some farm-fresh snacks, and bring your own picnic to enjoy at the farm, too. Hope to see you there!
Stop by anytime June 1, 10am-2pm, at 29089 SE Kelso Rd., Boring, OR 97009. Sign-up link is in our bio (it’s not required, but it helps us get a sense of how many people to prepare snacks for!). ☀️

A few weeks ago, we hosted students from Good Shepherd for a fun field trip all about plant parts and soil health! Some of the highlights of the day were planting starts in our learning garden with Juliette, doing a soil launch test with Jonathan, testing our plant part ID and culinary skills with Amanda, touring the farm with farmer Drew, and eating a delicious veggie stir fry noodle dish (thanks, Michelle!) together at the picnic tables. We can’t wait to have this group back at the farm again soon!
If you’re interested in scheduling a field trip with us, send us a DM or check out our website! Link in bio. 🌱
