Kim Kline for Florida House District 2
Independent candidate seeking common sense solutions to the issues facing Floridians today.
“While state and local governments across the country have struggled to combat a growing number of ransomware attacks, Florida’s state government has had unique problems.
After DeSantis created a new cybersecurity agency for state government, he appointed a former state lawmaker with no training on the subject to lead it.”
The result? A mass exodus of the most experienced state cybersecurity employees. We no longer have the structures in place to protect our personal data.
Ten million Floridians, (that’s half the population) have experienced data breaches because of inadequate security in our state government.
The legislature should demand more data protections for Floridians, but they won’t.

We’ve got to stop moving to the left or to the right and start moving forward- TOGETHER- on the issues that matter the most to the greatest number of people.

A message from John Adams, July 3, 1776, after signing the Declaration of Independence:
“…You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction…”

With a prison system in need of $16 billion in deferred maintenance, and a prison guard shortage so severe that 30% of Florida’s National Guard recruits are being used by the governor to oversee prisoners, shouldn’t we encourage rehabilitation?
These were solid bills, with bipartisan support in both chambers. The legislature should use its power to override the governor’s vetoes.
The powers are separated for a reason: to prevent tyrannical rule. But partisans pledge allegiance to a party, not constitutional principles.
Please remember that in November.

For the last two decades, state leaders have lied to us about the instability of the insurance market. Nothing has been done to mitigate this crisis because leadership does not have a master plan.
I feel confident that the process of restructuring Citizens is way above the pay grade of the average legislator. We need expert analysis on how to keep our properties protected at a reasonable rate, and so far, we’ve not even looked into the process.
The first step in solving a problem is admitting that you have one. Voters KNOW there’s a crisis, even if our elected officials do not want to admit it.

Pleasantly surprised to hear that the governor vetoed SB280, which pulled vacation rental regulation away from local governments, while only funding 9 agents to oversee every vacation rental in the state.
It was an irresponsible bill, which followed a legislative trend of moving power farther away from the people.

“For decades, Florida law allowed local governments to adopt their own ethics enforcement procedures. The new law — which went into effect Friday — sets uniform statewide standards for ethics rules, meaning that local ethics boards will not be able to set more stringent rules than the ones set for the Florida Commission on Ethics.”
As your representative, I will never vote to strip our district of its power to hold corrupt officials accountable.

DeSantis signs ethics bill - Tampa Bay Times Gov. Ron DeSantis quietly approved new restrictions Friday evening on how watchdog commissions can investigate state and local officials for suspected public corruption and ethical violations, even as local officials say the move will likely result in less government oversight of elected officials.
“Opening Doors and other outreach organizations say there is funding available for people who need housing assistance, but there aren’t enough affordable options that meet basic living standards, even for people who have jobs and have built up their credit, much less for those who haven’t. They also need more support for wrap-around services.”
We need viable solutions for more affordable housing in our area, and it’s more complicated than just “building more houses.”
As your representative, I will work with our local leaders and nonprofits to create state policy that supports our local initiatives to create attainable housing for Pensacola’s working families and seniors.

Pensacola area's latest homeless count numbers are in: here's what they reveal. Escambia, Santa Rosa counties show drop in homeless numbers, but there's more to the story.
So many of our local nonprofits were inexplicably cut from state funding this year. Art & cultural organizations drive much of the downtown economy, which creates jobs and fuels city and county tax revenues. We are all interconnected.
“The Legislature, of course, could restore all these cuts and replenish Florida's cultural lifeline, but checks and balances feel like a concept buried deep in the state's grander past.”
Send a representative to Tallahassee who will fight for everyone in Northwest Florida, and who is not afraid to use the power of checks and balances.

DeSantis selfishly guts Florida's arts and culture funding for a budget gimmick | Commentary Some of the larger line items Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed out of the $116 billion budget were cultural and museum grants and related projects.
As an independent,I have always been concerned with government accountability. Partisan officials seem to protect other members of their party, even if they are corrupt.
This is a terrible law, that will make it even more difficult to file ethics complaints against corrupt elected officials.
We need more transparency, not less.
