Happy Birthday to Basil Rathbone (1892-1967) for many he is the screens finest SHERLOCK HOLMES & for others one of the screens foremost villains in films like ROBIN HOOD, ROMEO AND JULIET, ANNA KARENINA & CAPTAIN BLOOD. He is also associated with horror with films like SON OF FRANKENSTEIN, THE MAD DOCTOR, TOWER OF LONDON & TALES OF TERROR. Whatever he did--he did it well.

Remembering Ernest Borgnine (1917-2012) on his birthday. Borgnine played heroes, heavies, or just everyday Joe's in a large number of films (winning an Academy Award for his 1955 performance as MARTY). He found success on television too with the antics of MCHALE'S NAVY (1962-1966) & heroics of AIR WOLF (1984-1986). Among his many films: FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, VERA CRUZ, BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK, FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX, THE DIRTY DOZEN, THE WILD BUNCH, ICE STATION ZEBRA, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE
My usual reaction...
The latest in potable TV...
