Imagine a guy who cracks jokes for Pl***oy magazine, then heads north to Canada to become the comedy kingpin of a subversive TV show. That was Harold Ramis. From writing on National Lampoon's Animal House to directing Bill Murray in Caddyshack, Ramis wasn't just funny, he was a comedy mastermind. He took the wheel of National Lampoon's Vacation, turning a family road trip into a hilarious odyssey. Clark Griswold's quest for Walley World became a comedic journey filled with car troubles, kooky relatives, and frustrated meltdowns. Ramis's direction gave us the Griswolds, a dysfunctional family we can't help but root for, and cemented his place as a director who could bring out the chaotic hilarity in everyday situations.

FAST FOOD AND DOWNHOME FRIENDLINESS AT TRI-VILLAGE

In1964, at the time the Ford Mustang and Lucky Charms were introduced, two brothers, Lou and Tony Christopher, unveiled Tri-Village Drive-In, home of the Lot-A-Burger.
Hoffman Estates and Elgin residents would drive along the two lanes of Barrington and Irving Park Roads to reach Tri-Village in Hanover Park, one of the first fast-food restaurants in the northwest suburbs.

The roads have expanded and the scenery has changed, but people still drive from all over to sample the friendly, hometown atmosphere and the Lot-A-Burger, a quarter pounder with a name whose origin is forgotten.
This June, the Christophers will celebrate 30 years of peeling potatoes for the fresh-cut french fries, concocting family recipes and serving the popular Italian roast beef sandwich ($3.09) and Vienna hot dog with fries ($1.55)

"We never skimped on the recipes," Lou said. "We've used the best quality and maintained a level of price near fast foods. It's the homemade taste that brings them back."
Tri-Village is the kind of place where children are handed candy canes and where they receive Cracker Jacks with kid's meal ($2.55).
Specialties include fresh fruit shakes (from $1.35), sundaes (from $1.25), chicken parmesan sandwich ($3.39), shrimp ($3.99), mostaccioli ($2.95) and chili dog and fries ($1.99)."

"I come out of my way to come here," Dumpman said. "The biggest thing is that everything is friendly. It's more downhome with honest, real people than fast-food chains."
