My most recent visit to the dentist wasn’t the first time I noticed this..
This idea has been coming in my mind for over a year now.
How much calmer I have become over the past handful of years - maybe it’s growing up, but it could very well be my yoga practice have a deeper influence!

Fight or flight or freeze is the stress reaction of our sympathetic nervous system. The SNS is what kicks in instinctively as a stress reaction when there is a perceived threat. Your breath quickens and your heart rate speeds up.
Instead of staying balanced day to day, this SNS is staying unchecked and effects both mental and physical health.
Enter: Yoga. The breathing exercises along with holding poses while staying mindful of your body can help you in switching off that stress response.

I don’t practice headstand, handstand, full wheel, bow, or crow pose in my personal practice . For me, those are advanced poses.
I don’t practice for those poses.
What for? To advance my practice? To show that I have the accountability to keep showing up and reaching? To show that I can put in the hours of practice?
👉🏼 Yoga is MORE than the poses. I want to know how you feel in the moments of stillness, how you feel with your breath, how you feel gratitude, how mindful you feel in everyday life, how well you listen to your body. These elements make the yoga. Not JUST the shapes.

I know it’s easier said than done to let go of worries about perfection.
Believe me, I’ve spent many a yoga class worrying about achieving the perfect Warrior II, the perfect pyramid, or the perfect Mountain pose.
But through practice, I’ve learned that focusing your energy on perfection rather than how it feels in YOUR body is an unnecessary source of stress.
Because when you channel your effort away from perfection and instead into internal awareness, you cultivate:
