International Tea Day is celebrated every year on May 21. On this day, tea lovers unite in celebration of their favorite beverage. International Tea Day also promotes ways to sustain the production and consumption of tea. On this day, we can also learn of the importance of tea in combating hunger and poverty. You might be surprised to know that tea is the most loved beverage for millions worldwide. Every second, people consume 25,000 cups of tea, meaning more than two billion cups of tea are consumed per day.
n 2005, tea-producing countries came together to celebrate International Tea Day. These countries were Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, and Uganda. In 2019, the Intergovernmental Group on Tea decided to celebrate International Tea Day on May 21. The U.N. said yes to the celebrations on December 21, 2019. The first official U.N. International Tea Day was celebrated on May 21, 2020.

Projections show that as the world population increases, so will the number of tea drinkers. Tea enjoys great popularity in India and China. These two countries alone account for 37% of the world’s total population, meaning a substantial number of tea lovers reside in India and China. According to legend, Emperor Shen Hung of China discovered tea when leaves from a tree blew into his pot of boiling water. He loved the hot liquid and humanity has not looked back ever since.

Besides drinking it for taste, there are quite a few health benefits of tea drinking. Tea contains antioxidants that reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, aid with weight loss, protect the bones, prevent tooth loss, boost the immune system, help battle cancer, soothe the digestive system, and relax the body. Habitual tea drinkers are also less likely to die prematurely. Habitual tea drinkers drink the beverage at least three times a week. Green tea seems to have more health benefits than black tea.

World Baking Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday in May as the day for everyone to bake something. This year, it falls on May 19. Are you a person who bakes often? Or, are you someone who has never baked at all? If you’re the latter, the day is for you to bake something. Sweet or savory, pretzels or crackers, you have to indulge in baking at least once. You’ll most likely love it, especially if you have baked goods of choice. So, get yourself ready for this tasty experience.
World Baking Day is a campaign started by Unilever to promote their margarine products. World Baking Day was celebrated on May 17, but the day is to be celebrated on a Sunday so that people would have time to bake. World Baking Day was initially observed on May 20, 2012, which was the third Sunday in May. The day is meant for people to bake something and give it away to show that they care. So, we chose to refer to our World Baking Day as the one on the third Sunday in May.

Baking is done in an oven, but it can also be on hot ashes or hot stones. It has been traditionally performed by women at home and by men at bakeries and restaurants. Baked goods, especially bread, are a common and essential food, economically and culturally, so the art of baking is considered a fundamental skill. People whose profession is to prepare baked goods are bakers; pastry chefs are those who are trained in the art of making bread, pastries, desserts, and other baked goods.

One of the most common items of baked goods is bread, although many other types of food can also be baked. From cakes, cookies, and pretzels to pizzas, lasagna, and baked potatoes, there are many foods you can put in the oven to enjoy baking and tasting. Sweet or savory, the options of baked goods are endless. Pies, for example, can be made sweet and savory — apple pie, sugar pie, steak pie, and quiche, yum. So, what are you going to bake today? Whatever it’ll be, make sure you share it with your loved ones.

World Hypertension Day is observed annually on May 17 to raise awareness of hypertension and encourage hypertension prevention, detection, and control. Hypertension affects more than one billion people around the globe and over 30% of the adult population in the world. It is the primary risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, particularly coronary artery disease and stroke. Besides, hypertension is also a risk factor for chronic kidney disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, and dementia. That’s why sharing information about this condition is essential.
HISTORY OF WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY
World Hypertension Day was initiated by the World Hypertension League (W.H.L.). W.H.L. is a non-profit international organization founded on January 4, 1984, dedicated to preventing and controlling hypertension at the population level. World Hypertension Day was first launched on May 14, 2005. Since 2006, W.H.L. has been observing May 17 of every year as World Hypertension Day. The day is aimed at increasing awareness of hypertension due to the lack of appropriate knowledge among patients with hypertension.

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a medical condition when the blood pressure in the blood vessels is continuously elevated. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your blood vessels are, the higher your blood pressure becomes. High blood pressure typically does not cause symptoms, but long-term high blood pressure can result in coronary artery disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, and dementia. Since there are usually no symptoms, you need to have a screening to identify your blood pressure.

Hypertension has two types: primary (essential) hypertension and secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension does not have an identifiable cause, while secondary hypertension does, including obstructive sleep apnea, kidney disease, and certain medications such as birth control pills or some prescription drugs. Some methods for the primary prevention of hypertension include: maintaining body weight for adults; engaging in regular aerobic physical activity, such as brisk walking; reducing dietary sodium intake; consuming a diet rich in fruit and vegetables; and limiting alcohol consumption.
