As SA Awareness month comes to a close, please remember there are more survivors than not. Although the awareness month ends, the work doesn’t stops. Continue to support survivors, support organizations, know the signs, know how to help.

1 in 6 women & 1 in 33 men will experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. So, if someone shares with you that they’ve been assaulted here are some ways you can help:

Remember the Four B's.
Believe, Be There, Be Patient, Be Resourceful.

One of the main reasons for a survivor not reporting their assault is the fear of not being believed. So, if a survivor shares their truth with you, please show that you care and that you believe them. Be there for them. Show that you empathize with them.
There is no timeframe for this healing process. Remember to be patient with them in this journey. Lastly, learn about the resources your community has to offer.

We will be posting throughout April on more ways to spread awareness & help survivors in your community. For more information, please reach out to us via email or phone.

You can spend your Saturday supporting amazing organizations in your community! The Women's Resource Center is having an event starting at 10am on the 30th (THIS WEEK) with free admission! Make sure to go check it out, get home to get some rest, and then come on out to our dinner that night!

Here’s some info on how they started & services they provide!

“What began as a dream for three local women in 1986 has flourished into a decades-long commitment to women and families in the Unifour area. (Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties).
Women’s Resource Center was established to promote the overall well-being of women by focusing on their intellectual, psychological, spiritual and physical health. We received our 501c3 designation in 1987 and began our journey of empowering women to live their best lives.

WRC provides a multitude of services. Including, but not limited to community resource coaching & Womenmade. Womenade works to help individuals who are otherwise self-sufficient and are experiencing a temporary set-back or financial hardship. Womenade is not a long-term solution.”

WRC has been servicing Catawba County for some time and what they do for the women in our community is amazing. For instance, they are offering free counseling to uninsured or underinsured women from Catawba, Burke, Caldwell, and Alexander counties.

If you are interested in their services or would like to volunteer and/or donate please call them at (828) 322-6333 or visit their website for more information https://wrchickory.org/programs/financial-assistance-for-women/.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a wonderful woman in the community who is building an amazing dream non-profit right here in Hickory. ✨ is driven by a single goal; to do their part in making a change in the lives of survivors of sexual assault. They offer a multitude of services including, but not limited to meditation sessions, life skill courses, and retreats completely free to our clients.

April 30th from 6-8:30pm is their first ever fundraising dinner & tickets are only $10!! They will be hosting a silent auction (with some cool plants 😉) & an amazing dinner 🤤☺️ If you can’t come you can still donate $10 for this event! I spend more than that at Chic-Fil-A y’all! 🤔

Hit me in the DM for the Payment Handle!!! We literally ALL know someone who has been sexually assaulted unfortunately & these victims deserve to get their life back!! 👌🏼💯

Check out some of the resources FGC has to offer!

04/05/2022

As you may know, April is SA Awareness Month, and we will be posting different ways you can help survivors in our community throughout the month. Today is about Family Guidance Center! FGC has been a pillar in this community since 1958. They offer therapy, support groups, trauma-informed yoga, crisis counseling, and court advocacy, along with a few other things. By donating, whether it be your time, money, or general items you will be helping survivors in your very own backyard. Family Guidance Center is one of the few organizations in the Unifour area to have resources that specifically serve survivors of sexual violence. They have and will continue to do the work.

They are currently in need of gas cards, volunteers, & clothing like sweatpants, t-shirts, underwear, and sports bras (especially plus size). If you would like to make a monetary donation, please visit their webpage fgcservices.com for more information.

Happy International Day of Yoga!

“Yoga allows survivors to regain a sense of comfort and ease within their own shape, to process nonverbally feelings that transcend language, and to experientially cultivate gratitude towards the body, which serve as a reminder of one’s resilience (Boeder, 2012).”

My Process, My Truth is an organization that helps survivors of sexual assault no matter their race, creed or identity. We strive to bring stability back into survivors lives by hosting group and/or individual activities such as peer support, leisure social gatherings and access to other community resources. While we are ecstatic to be apart of the already amazing resources that Catawba County has to offer, we are also eager to introduce new and modernize support. It is going to be an amazing journey and we are happy and thankful for all of the love and encouragement we've received this far.

Thank you,
MPMT
