Hacienda CDC joins in the grief, pain, and outrage felt across this country and in our own city at the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other black and brown people at the hands of willfully negligent law enforcement officials.

Latinos in this country cannot stay silent. We do not have the luxury or privilege. The systemic racism that allowed this criminal behavior is felt every day by black and brown people in every neighborhood across Portland and the state.

Hacienda CDC leadership, staff, and board of directors join the voices of black leaders in our community to address the actions we must take to bring these senseless killings to an end.

We stand in solidarity with our black sisters and brothers and ask our civic leaders to address the meaningful and needed change of the laws and policies that perpetuate the institutional racism that oppress and destroys black and brown communities.

We ask our white allies to take a stand, speak up, and fight the racism biases they see in themselves, their families, and their communities. You’ve been silent too long, and your silence is deafening. It’s not enough to not be a racist. You must be anti-racist in your words and actions.

“This is not about one murder or one incident. It’s about the entire history and system that we’ve been living in, and that’s what we need to come to terms with and tackle head-on,” Commissioner Hardesty.

Commissioner Amanda Fritz has held the position since 2009 and is currently the longest tenured person on the council. She announced in April 2019 that she would not be seeking a fourth term.

Congrats to Adelante Mujeres​, the recipient of a $15,000 grant from COUNTRY Financial​! Adelante Mujeres ("Women Rise Up") is a non-profit based in Forest Grove, OR whose mission is to provide education and empowerment opportunities to low income Latina women and their families. The grant will support the Sustainable Agriculture Program which provides training on how to grow produce using sustainable methods and how to successfully market products.
