Here’s a little know fact: if you look up “Ultimate PRS Wizard” in the dictionary, you’ll find a picture of Kelly Gorra. For the last two years, Kelly has given all she’s got (and then some more!!) as Co-President of the PTO. From early mornings to late nights, from countless Weekly Wizards to last minute social media posts, Kelly basically never said no. Words cannot express how grateful we all are for her dedication, enthusiasm and guidance. Kelly, to say that we are going to miss you is a tremendous understatement. You are an unbelievable leader, but also an amazing friend. Thank you (times a billion) for all that you have done for PRS and for our kids. 💕💕 PS, now that you’re done, please know this: you can run but you absolutely cannot hide. 👀👀🥰🥰. Here’s to Kelly and happy summer to all!!

PRS Summer Garden Care 06/11/2024

The PRS garden only exists and continues to grow food because of volunteers like you! 🌱👩‍🌾🌿

We are writing with one last request for support over the summer - the garden continues to grow food our students have planted over the summer and needs to be watered and maintained. We rely on volunteers from PRS to support this. This is a great opportunity to get your family involved in supporting the garden - no experience or green thumbs necessary. If all you can do is water - that’s fine! If you enjoy weeding or harvesting you are welcome to help with those activities as well!

We will send out more details and directions to anyone who signs up and also organize two garden education events with Holly Hill over the summer - this will walk people through what plants are growing in the garden, what plants are weeds and should be pulled, etc.

Join us for PRS Field Day NEXT Friday, June 7th! 🏃‍♂️🌞

Let's come together to create a fun-filled day for our little ones. Without enough volunteers, we'll have to scale back on the currently planned stations.

For CORI checks, swing by the PRS front office during school hours with your license - it's quick and easy!

Donation needs:
-Johnson's Liquid Baby soap for the fan-favorite slip-and-slide!
-Bananas
-2 Pop-up canopy tents
-Wagons to borrow for the day for each class

Sign up here to bring it or send it. Volunteer positions:

-There are TONS open- being a coordinator means that you help classes get set up at their station. You'll have exact directions on the activity and all of the supplies, and the teachers, paras and parent volunteers per class will help to run it. It's super fun! Many of the positions are 1-3 hours long; we'll work with whatever you can give! :) Thank you!

Take Care of Our Earth Bingo!
Please join the students in Mrs. Willison's fourth grade class to take care of our earth. Each child at PRS was sent home with a green bingo mat on Friday, May 3. The mat is filled with 16 opportunities to take care of our planet.

From now until May 31, we encourage students to do as many activities as they can to celebrate and care for our earth. Each time they do an activity, they cross it off on their bingo board. Parents sign it and submit it to your child's teacher by Friday, May 31.

Students can do arts activities such as writing a short story or a poem, making a nature collage or a recycled sculpture. They can also do things to save water and energy in your home such as turning off the faucet when they brush their teeth, take shorter showers and turn off electronics when they're not using them.
They can help clean up our earth by bringing plastic gloves and a trash bag on the next nature walk or beach trip. We encourage them to walk or bike to school instead of driving.

All students who participate will receive a special pencil.
Students who complete 5 or more activities will be entered to win a Nona’s gift card.

The class with the most entries will win an art activity planned and organized by the students in Mrs. Willison’s class!

Help the students in 4W care for our earth!

Cultural Enrichment: On Monday, April 22, Acton Discovery Museum returned to PRS with their annual “Bubbles” program for Grade K. Each class held individual workshops, which support the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework, investigating questions like: How long does a bubble last? What color is a bubble? Can you predict when a bubble will pop? Students challenged what they think they know about bubbles as they made new observations, posed questions, investigated, and discussed their findings. The program was planned and funded up PRS PTO. Thanks Lauren Davalla for planning and Haley DeCarlo Herrlinger for taking photos!

Happy Earth Day! Monday, April 22nd is Earth Day, and the theme this year is "Planet vs. Plastics." So naturally, the PTO Green Team is challenging the PRS community to use less plastic! Single-use plastic is bad for the ocean, the land, and our health - but we can make a difference. How?

Pass on individually wrapped snacks and foods; pack snacks and lunch in reusable containers.
Skip drinks that come in disposable plastic bottles or cartons that wind up in the trash.
Avoid ziploc, plastic baggies, and plastic wrap; choose reusable containers.
Say no to plastic plates, straws, and utensils.
We hope you'll join us this week and beyond in saying NO to disposable single-use plastics! Print out this handy sheet from Less Plastic as a reminder. Thank you and Happy Earth Day!
