Kicking off our series with Mana Up Hawaii is the inspiring story of Melia Goodenow and her mother Joy Johnson, the co-founders of Hawaiian Rainforest Naturals. The story begins when Joy came to Hawaii— and fell in love with the people and its beauty, and soon began learning and living the Hawaiian ways. Melia was born soon after and was raised with a deep appreciation of the local agriculture and nature.
Today, Melia and Joy create flower essences with local ingredients based on Hawaiian tradition. In their creations and all that they do, they strive to maintain Pono—integrity—and aloha, always remembering to give thanks and to give back to the Earth by taking care of this unique and sacred place.

This we’re sharing tips to avoid falling for transaction verification scams! Scammers will use texts, calls, and emails to send you a fake transaction alert for something you *definitely* didn’t do to create panic. They’ll usually include a link, email address to reply to, or a phone number for you to call, where they’ll ask you questions about your account to steal your account information. Here are some common signs it’s a scam, and what you should do instead:
⚠️ The message includes a strange link to log in to check your accounts.
✅ Don’t click the link, check your accounts through the normal ways you typically log in.
⚠️ The caller says they need your full account number to resolve the fraud alert—and it’s *extremely* urgent.
✅ Call your bank back directly at the number on the back of your debit or credit card before sharing any information.
⚠️ The email says to reply and share your account number and address to confirm your identity.
✅ Do not reply to the email and report the email as spam.
Remember: Bank of Hawaii will never ask for one-time passcodes, account numbers, login IDs, or passwords. When in doubt, hang up and call us, or the company, back directly through a number you’re familiar with—even if the caller ID looks legitimate.
