It’s maybe fitting that I finish my breast cancer surgeries at the end of Breast Cancer Awareness month. I have found that this is a journey that can only be taken when you are surrounded by your people. I am blessed with a LOT of people. The staff that I work with, the clients that I teach, my neighbors, my friends (those I have met in the last few years and those I have known most of my life) and of course my family, I could not have gotten through these last 8 months without each and every one of you.

It all started with a routine mammogram, then a follow up ultrasound. Next came 3 biopsies and my cancer diagnosis. A bi-lateral mastectomy where cancer was also found in my lymph nodes. Then forced menopause, and landing where we are now with my final stage of breast reconstruction and removal of my ovaries and fallopian tubes. Thankfully, with all of that I was able to escape chemo and radiation.

So, on this very last day of October, I’m imploring you from my hospital bed to PLEASE schedule your mammogram.

And, if you come across a scary diagnosis and don’t think you have anyone to talk to, please reach out to me. Many women talked me through this and were so very helpful. Even people I had never met before.

Enjoy your day Moms!

This is quite possibly the most difficult post I’ve had to write, but i wanted to share that I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. For everyone that has battled cancer in the past, or has been the support for someone who has, you are aware it’s a journey and I have just begun. Thankfully, I have an amazing support system surrounding me that I have relied upon to cry with me, tell me inappropriate but hilarious jokes to keep me laughing and squeeze me with hugs every chance they get. I am beyond grateful for the outpouring of love and offers of help and support I’ve received already.

I will be most likely absent here and there in the coming weeks and then again post surgery for a period of time. (You’ve never had more doctor appointments ever, until you have cancer.) However, please know that you are in the most capable hands with the amazing teachers and staff at the studio. That being said, I’m sure we will experience some hiccups here and there but I am confident they will be few and far between.

Luckily, my cancer was caught early and I should not have to receive chemo or radiation. (So, just a little reminder ladies to schedule your mammograms!) Please feel free to ask any questions or share your story with me. I am trying to be as open and honest as I can while I am fighting this. Which if you know me personally, that’s pretty much how I deal with most things 😉

There is no way I can accurately say with words how much our clients and community means to me. In a year, I cannot wait to look back at this post, have cancer in my rear view mirror and still be teaching pilates to my favorite people.

💙A student of pilates for 10 years, Rachel received her teaching certification in 2019 after deciding to make a career change and pursue life long dream of teaching Pilates.

💙Trained in the Flex Method, a mix of classical and modern Pilates, Rachel’s classes are challenging dynamically and physically.

💙Rachel is an energetic, playful and engaging instructor. You will leave her classes feeling stronger and refreshed.

💙DeeDee has been teaching Pilates for over 10 years. She started as a barre instructor and moved into reformer after she joined Energie 5 years ago. She loves teaching both classes equally.

💙DeeDee believes in work hard play hard. Do whatever you are doing with passion and presence. She tries to bring that to her classes. She keeps clients challenged through queuing, engagement and focusing on muscle groups but adds humor to keep it light. Having clients feel challenged yet successful is always her goal.

💙When she’s not teaching DeeDee enjoys her two dogs and cat, her husband Ed and being on the journey of her three adult kids.

💙Pam started her love of Demi Bar Pilates as a client the moment Energie opened! She enjoys teaching Barre and Cardio Chisel classes. She’s a certified IFPA fitness professional and has been a teacher here for several years.

💙She and her husband Steve enjoy their time as empty nesters In Western Springs as well as Newport Beach California. You can also always find her enjoying college football 🏈 especially her favorite Penn State Nittany Lions

💙 You can find her on Monday nights at 5:30pm teaching Demi-Bar and some weekends teaching Cardio Chisel Express as well as a sub up in the studio during the week.
