Is it okay for your knees to go past your toes?
Ideally, yes. You'll have the range of motion and strength to get into a deep squat or lunge. If you're not there yet, don't hurt yourself trying. Work your way up through a progressive program.
Even our activities of daily living demand the full range of motion and strength to be efficient.
