(Sorry long post but I gotta let it out)

Having back problems for more than 10 years. Injury from ruck marching with more than 40lbs in my ruck, jumping off airplanes (70x) with combat equipment, and hard work-out and lifting not knowing that I'm doing the wrong technique. Yes, I was a stud in Physical training (PT) test and max everything.... but it comes with a cost in the future. I got diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis and have 2 herniated disc in my lower back and lumbar, causing sciatica to both on my legs. I've been suffering with this pain for 14 years, but I was a young, stubborn soldier who didnt want to show weakness as a member of one of the elite units in the US Army. When the symptoms became worst, all the activites that I like to do just stopped: surfing, scuba diving, dancing, sports, long walks at the beach (seriously). I became depressed, had to see behavioral health, I now have anxiety, relationship issues with everybody, and became mad at myself. I was in a tough spot and it sucked. Finally decided to get surgery because I cannot stand it anymore, even though some disagrees because of the risk. I'm a soldier and senior non-commission officer, I accept the risk and makes decisions... and I'm about to retire in less than 2 years so might as well take care of myself, lol. Yesterday, I had the surgery and was called Laminectomy and Discectomy (this post is long enough so google it, lol). After the surgery, I woke up and immediately felt relief and started crying (or maybe I was still on anesthesia). I already felt better. Now recoverying and alot of physical therapy sessions, I want to get better again.
Whats the lesson in this long ass post:
- do not excert or force yourself. Just do your best.
- learn from the professionals, they know the right way of doing things that will not injure or hurt you, both mental and physical
- listen to your elders, meaning people who have experience and knowledge. Their advise might save your pain and your life.
- theres no difference between a passing score of 70 and 100...you still passed.
- Talk to someone if you're feeling down. Its ok.
