This week, I was grateful to have a moment to work with 808 CLEANUPS in Palolo. Led by Kimeona Kane, we connected with Pukele Stream and with each other through cleaning up trash dumped off the street. Hope to join next month!
Finished our first week of hearings in the House Co Sumer Protection and Commerce Committee. From condominium management to establishing a wildfire relief fund, our committee takes on complex and important issues facing Hawaii. We look forward to continued input from stakeholders and the public.
Mahalo to Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement for hosting the House Working Groups and to Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke for leading the discussion. I was happy to share ideas on how Hawaii can improve its food, water, and supply distribution systems during emergencies.
Our hearts go out to the families displaced by the wildfires on Maui. If you’re wondering how you can help, here are a few great organizations to donate to.

Thank you to Palolo Hongwanji for hosting this year’s Palolo Bon Dance! Always fun to have the common one together to have some fun!
Today, we kicked off the Sister Summit between Hawaii and Japan. Participated by 6 Prefectural Governors and 16 Mayors, the relationship between Hawaii and Japan remains strong. I look forward to helping grow these partnerships with Japan and its other Sister States.
Palolo Bon Dance is back! Come by this Saturday July 29th for some good old fun, food, and dancing!
I was excited to tour UH Manoa’s existing and new student housing projects with fellow legislators. We walked through the newest residence at the Atherton site, which will add 220 units/374 beds for undergraduate students. Not only will this provide quality, affordable residence for students, but will help free up housing in communities like Palolo where students rent property.
Congratulations to this year’s KBPA Scholarship awardees and thank you to the Kaimuki Business & Professionals Assembly for supporting these bright students on their journey to college!

Kicking the weekend off working in the community. It was amazing to see the community come together to improve Kaimuki Highschool and Palolo Park Gym.
What a great way to start the Session! Opening Day, commiting to universal Pre-K, celebrating a Sister-State relationship with Yamaguchi, and standing up for women's rights.
I saw how bad Kaimuki Park was graffitied and decided to try taking it off. Thanks to Michael David Loftin for the tips. Got most of the surface paint off, but still had plenty paint underneath. I'm going to come back to take care of the rest, so let me know if you want to join me!
I'm proud to stand besides Governor Ige with our signed catalytic converter bill. Within 2 months of taking effect, HPD already made 3 arrests and have shut down illegal catalytic converter sales. I hope to continue to work with my community to introduce effective legislation like this one next year.
Touring the future Goodwill building on Waialae Ave. I was impressed with the project team's commitment to working with the community. From answering questions at neighborhood boards to going door-to-door, it's clear that caring for Kaimuki's residents and businesses is a priority. I look forward to continuing working with the 3650 Waialae team on renewing this property for Kaimuki.
Congratulations to Dr. Reid Kuba for earning the Principal of the Year Award. As principal of William P Jarrett Middle School, he elevated student achievements and bridged the school and the community. Mahalo for your dedication and service!
Mahalo Kama'aina Kids and Hokulani Elementary School for showing me the great work you do for our students and their families. It was fun to talk story with teachers, who once taught me.
Testimony time for HB2277. Inspired by Palolo resident, Carissa Moore, this bill supports interscholastic surfing programs in schools. We have world class talent in Hawaii. It's time we give them an opportunity to grow!
My catalytic converter bill is being heard tomorrow at the Capitol. Your testimony is important get this bill passed, so please go to www.capitol.hawaii.gov to submit your testimony.
As schools navigate the numerous challenges of COVID, I'm happy to support Jarrett Middle by donating 500 masks. Thank you William P Jarrett Middle School and Principal Gardner for all you do for our students and community!
Starting the 2022 legislative session with a great team. From legislation to community concerns, my office is ready to serve District 20 and the people of Hawaii.
Big Mahalo to everyone who made this event possible! We had over 300 people turn out to get vaccinated and tested! With growing need in the community, we'll definitely be organizing another one soon!

In light of the new Omnicron surge, my office and Project Vision are hosting a FREE TESTING and VACCINATION clinic on Saturday (01/08) at Kaimuki District Park. We look forward to seeing you there!
Mahalo to KBPA for sharing the holiday spirit! Just as KBPA has supported Kaimuki, let's do our part to support our local businesses this holiday season!
Looking for some ono food or Christmas presents? Come check out Kaimuki's amazing local stores!
Today, CDC's Eviction Moratorium was shot down by the Supreme Court and will no longer be in effect. This means Hawaii renters are subject to Act 57, which requires mediation before landlords can evict tenants. Please share this information with those you know that may face eviction.
City's Rental Relief Program reopens TODAY at noon. Applications are limited, so please don't wait to apply. To find out more go to https://www.oneoahu.org/renthelp
This Sunday from 9am-2pm, Queen's Health System and Becky Gardner will host a FREE vaccination clinic at Kaimuki Community Park. With COVID cases on the rise, it's important we get vaccinated to protect our families and community. The more people get vaccinated, the sooner we can return to a normal life.
Big Mahalo to Pastor Kevin, Dhalia, and Darrah from Project Vision Hawaii for organizing this vaccination and testing event. Amazing to see a great turnout as it becomes more important to get vaccinated. Great to see Lieutenant Governor Josh Green coming out to help with vaccinations too!
Mahalo to 808 Clean Ups for helping maintain and improve this amazing park! If you want to get involved, they're at Pu'uo Kaimuki Mini Park on Monday and Friday afternoon from 4-6.
Last night, I spoke with neighbors and Council Chair Waters about the recent demolition of a home on Sierra Dr. Despite not having the proper permit, the developer continues to push forward with this Monster Home project.
It's so frustrating to see developers forcing their way past DPP without regard for small neighborhoods in my district. The City must place additional safeguards against these monster homes and strengthen DPP’s enforcement capabilities. The punishment for violating our laws should be a deterrent, not the cost of doing business that developers can shrug off.
