2023 HPH Employee Giving Campaign
Sept. 1 marked the start of the 2023 Hawaii Pacific Health Employee Giving Campaign. This year's theme, โ€œOur Care is Rooted in Our Communities,โ€ represents how, like leaves of the kalo plant, employee contributions nourish and strengthen the hearts of our communities through health care. During the month of September, HPH employees are invited to join the annual campaign to support programs and services at each of its four medical centers, including Straub Medical Center's Kokua Fund for patient emergency assistance which provides medication, medical equipment, transportation and more for patients in need. This year, 10% of all funds raised will be donated to the Maui Strong Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation (HCF) to support residents affected by the Maui wildfires. HPH has already made a $100,000 contribution to this fund.

Migraine and Headache Awareness Month: 5 Common Myths About Migraines
๐Ÿ’œ June is National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month โ€“ a time to champion advocacy and research, build community, and raise awareness for migraine. Migraine impacts 36 million people in the U.S. and is the second leading cause of disability globally. Though migraine is so prevalent, many do not understand much about it. Here are five common myths about migraines and read the facts below that debunk them: Fact 1๏ธโƒฃ Migraine is a complex neurological disease, not just a headache. Fact 2๏ธโƒฃ Migraine is brain network disorder, and vascular changes occur as a result of migraine mechanisms but are not a cause of migraine. Fact 3๏ธโƒฃ Migraine is often misdiagnosed and underdiagnosed. Fact 4๏ธโƒฃ Migraine triggers can be difficult to identify and sometimes there are no triggers. Fact 5๏ธโƒฃ There is a very large toolkit for treating migraine successfully and acute and preventative treatment should be actively offered for eligible patients to reduce disability. Talk to your doctor about ways you can stay informed and live healthier.

Straub Medical Center Physical Therapy Month
Every October, we celebrate the amazing physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapy assistants (PTAs) at our Straub Medical Center locations in Hawaii Kai, King St. and Pearlridge during National Physical Therapy Month for all they do to transform lives! PTs identify, diagnose and treat movement problems in people of all ages and abilities. PTs and PTAs work together to improve quality of life through prescribed movement and patient education. They help people restore movement, address pain, achieve fitness goals, and maintain their independence to lead healthy, active lives. PTs and PTAs play an important role in preventive care, rehabilitation and treatment for patients with chronic conditions, illnesses or injuries, and develop physical activity plans based on patients' individual goals, needs and challenges. Help us thank the Hawaii Pacific Health PTs and PTAs at our Straub Medical Center rehabilitation therapy clinics and give them a shoutout in the comments below!

People often have questions about mammograms and to help put your mind at ease, Jill Baisac, manager at our sister facility, Pali Momi Women's Center, dispels some common myths about mammograms.
