The island of Hawaiʻi and its surrounding waters are under a tropical storm warning, while all islands are now under a flash flood watch through at least Wednesday afternoon. A high surf warning forecasting dangerously large and disorganized waves is in effect through Wednesday for the islands of Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, and Hawaiʻi, along with a high wind warning. Oʻahu and Kauaʻi will be under a wind advisory through Wednesday evening. Storm surge from Calvin will spread through the Hawaiian islands later today and tonight, particularly along windward shores, with swells having the potential to cause life-threatening conditions.
The Central Pacific Hurricane Center said Calvin strengthened this morning, with maximum sustained winds around 50mph. The storm is about 245 miles east/southeast of Hilo and around 460 miles east/southeast of Honolulu. The storm is moving briskly west at around 22mph. Tropical storm winds are extending up to around 115 miles from the center of the storm, with the first impacts expected for the island of Hawaiʻi this evening. Calvin is expected to remain a tropical storm for around the next 36 hours before weakening.
As always, Mobi does not suspend services for our customers (due to nonpayment or otherwise) during any weather emergency. Our Mobi care team can be reached during its normal hours after the storm passes at 808 723-1111 via phone or SMS, or via imessage.mobi.com from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Aloha kākou a hauʻoli ka Lā Hana!
Did you know that the first recorded collective labor action in Hawaiʻi happened in 1841, shortly before the Great Māhele, when workers at Kōloa on Kauaʻi went on strike for better wages?
Just over a century later, in 1945, the territorial law giving effect to the New Deal-era federal Wagner Act was passed, reinforcing the constitutional right for workers to unionize. That led to sugar, pineapple, and dock workers organizing together with the International Longshoremen and Warehouseman's Union (the ILWU), which became the first union to create significant bargaining power on behalf of workers in the then-territory of Hawaiʻi.
Upon statehood in 1959, Hawaiʻi became only the third state in the Union to explicitly guarantee a right to collective bargaining for public and private employees in its constitution, further reinforcing workers' federal First Amendment constitutional rights to unionize.
And although it might have taken us a little while — just over 180 years since the first efforts by workers to organize in Hawaiʻi, and nearly 18 years since Mobi launched — but this Labor Day will also be the first that our team here at Mobi will be proudly represented by the Communications Workers of America. We look forward to working together with the CWA to nurture and grow our team, and to support, wherever we can, the rights of our colleagues across telecommunications and technology to organize.
Labor Day was created to honor and recognize the American labor movement and to celebrate the contributions of workers to the development of our shared Union — these United States of America. As a team now organized in support of that movement, with kūpaʻa (steadfast and constant) ka lōkahi (unity and accord) — and in solidarity — happy Labor Day from all of us here at Mobi!
Edith Kenao Kanakaʻole will be one of five women to appear on the quarter dollar next year, with the U.S. Mint saying her "moʻolelo, or stories, served to rescue aspects of Hawaiian history, customs, and traditions that were disappearing due to the cultural bigotry of the time." She will be honored alongside aviation pioneer Bessie Coleman, journalist and suffragist Jovita Idar, former First Lady and reformer Eleanor Roosevelt, and groundbreaking ballerina Maria Tallchief.
Edith Kanakaʻole will appear as one of five women honored on the U.S. quarter next year. A Hilo native, Kanakaʻole was a kumu hula, composer, chanter, and a key influence in the Hawaiian renaissance of the 1970s.
Happy 4th Mobiversary to our King St. Store!
