Bloom for all Physical Therapy
We help children gain confidence. Through play and PT we tackle gross motor skills and constipation Hi. So glad you're here. It's nice to meet you!
I am Melissa Howard, the owner and a Physical Therapist here at Bloom. I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2011 and have been working in pediatrics ever since. Celebrating success with my patients is a pure joy and keeps me on a constant pursuit to find the best treatment for each child. Our patients average coming to see us 8.5 visit prior to their goals being met! We offer quality physi
We love Yoga! One of our favorites to recommend is . It will keep your kids of all ages engaged! Yoga can help working in calming and slowing down, balance, coordination, body awareness and more!
We have been doing lots of flamingo and airplane in the office with eyes closed to work on body awareness and finding midline for things like bike riding and toileting!
Which exercises is your child’s favorite to try? This is a great way to beat the heat this summer
One of the hardest things with cruising can be shifting their weight to one foot then feeling confident to lift the other leg. 2 easy ways to practice on this component at home:
1️⃣ Move toys to the side when the are standing, holding onto a surface, to have them reach and shift weight toward one foot.
2️⃣ Place one of your child’s feet up on your foot or a book to shift their weight to one leg and build strength and confidence. This can be done in the middle of the room, at a wall or while playing at a table.
We hope to see you soon at our new office! It was a weekend filled with cleaning, packing, organizing, lots of drilling. We have a few more open spots for new patients!
I am Blown away by the provision of this clinic space. Short story is I met with another provider for coffee 3 years ago…we stayed connected…1 year ago I got to see her daughter…a few months later she told me she knew of a space coming up. This space was the first I had seen out of dozens that fit my needs and budget. The Lord is seen weaved in all the details and orchestrated it all. I love looking back at his faithfulness.
We love getting creative in the clinic. So often our toddlers want to play with toys they had when they were little.
Here are some things you’ll see us repurpose:
⭐️a jack in the box or fisher price piggy bank to work on standing on one leg!
⭐️Mardi Gras beads to work on toe intrinsics by picking them up with toes.
⭐️Porcupine needles to get out of their toes for some lower abdominal activation.
Here are some ideas to incorporate squats at home during play:
➡️ Gardening and smelling flowers
➡️ Place legos on the floor and then have them build on a coffee table or higher surface
➡️ Bowling or rolling a ball on the floor
You can get creative with this one. Want to make it harder? For a bonus have your little one come up on their toes as they stand up then back to flat feet as they come down.
Squats are a great way to help kids. Hold pelvic floor coordination through play!
Have you noticed your baby tends to look mostly to the left or right? Are you looking for ways to help your baby look both ways without adding one more thing to the daily routine? We know adding something to the routine on top of the normal can feel like a lot. Here are a few ways to adjust what you’re already doing to help encourage your little one to look both ways!
The heat seems to be coming quickly!! As summer hits keeping your child hydrated can be a challenge! With a change in routine and the heat, staying hydrated is foundational for keeping constipation away. Finding high water content foods for snacks like watermelon, cucumbers or strawberries can help. Also popsicles and adding flavor to water can keep them coming back for more! We love TruLemon or Lime sprinkled in or frozen fruit.
What’s your favorite way to keep yourself and your little ones hydrated?
So everyone is always saying don’t let your little one W-Sit, but WHY NOT?
➡️In this position our abdominal muscles don’t have to engage. Changing the position can captivate on strengthening and building a strong foundation for future skills.
➡️It decreases how far your little one can reach because of the position of the back and pelvis
➡️It can tighten the stomach leading to difficulty sitting up tall, change standing posture, decrease ability to take a deep breath. Deep breathing is important when it comes to constipation management!
So how can you help?!
1️⃣ Encourage side sitting
2️⃣ Move toys up to higher surface to encourage tall kneeling
3️⃣ Getting some time on the floor on their belly to stretch out

Happiness is laughter, enjoying the small moments, celebrating all the wins and love along the way!
Tackling all things in the bathroom can take time! Here at Bloom we want to remind you to Celebrate each step your child completes…each step is an opportunity to build confidence and independence.
So even if your little one isn’t yet p**ping in the potty they can help with all the other steps!
Climbing stairs - this is a gradual skill that kids learn first by crawling, then holding your hand, then holding a rail, then by themselves!
Stairs require balance on one leg, strength, core stability and big force production! As your child begins doing stairs with a handrail or by themselves we are looking for symmetry- can they go up with left and right? Do they always lead with the same leg? If you notice they always lead with one leg you can encourage alternating to work on using both sides of their body.
Feeling safe on the toilet is foundational for success! Whether you are in the middle of potty training, preparing or dealing with constipation this is for you
What makes a child feel unsafe:
➡️ Feet not touching and dangling
➡️ Larger seat and they are fearful to fall in
➡️ Difficulty with balance in sitting
Getting the right tools and set up can make a huge difference for success and fully emptying both p*e and p**p!
Just a little encouragement for your Friday - you can BLOOM right where you are. I read this week that to Thrive simply means to be growing. I found that incredibly helpful - my life doesn’t have to feel easy, look perfect, have all the pieces together to be Blooming and Thriving!
Do you feel like your little one has been standing for awhile, but not yet ready to let go of furniture?! Try these tips to help them gain balance and confidence -
➡️Trade the coffee table or couch for a more unstable surface to decrease weight in their hands
➡️Have child hold a toy with you in the middle of the room
We are excited to host a plethora of community events this year! We want to equip you and help you connect with others as well!
Our first event is going to be talking about all things “milk” with . We will be talking about both bottle and breast feeding! We will have mimosas and muffins! Looking forward to seeing you and giving you tips and guidance!!
Not sure if this is for you? Do you…
➡️have ni**le pain between nursing sessions?
➡️want to prepare for new baby?
➡️ notice your baby only latches on one side?
➡️ notice your baby cries or gets fussy when feeding?
➡️ have questions about pumps?
➡️ wonder if your baby is getting enough?
We hope you’ll join us for some fun learning!!
PLAY is how kids learn and how they are motivated! We use play at Bloom for All to help your child tackle gross motor skills or constipation!
It always makes me smile when kids say they can’t wait to come back!
We love jumping jacks! They help so much with coordination, body awareness, control, core stability and more! They require so much and can be quite difficult!
If your little one is struggling with jumping jacks here are a few tips from a physical therapist to help:
1️⃣ practice just the arms then just the legs. This breaks down the task to help them understand and get confident in the two separate parts!
2️⃣ Visual targets can be helpful if they aren’t separating their legs or moving one side more than the other.
3️⃣ Often kids are trying to go so fast - slow them down to give their brain time to process and model in front of them.
4️⃣ Practice the arm and leg movement separate or together in the floor to take away gravity and the muscular demand while they work on the coordination piece
5️⃣ Hop Scotch can be a big confidence booster as well as a way to practice jumping jacks differently. Sometime frustration can build from not being able to do it, so switch it up!
🚽 is it potty training time? Watch our for these physical signs from a PT:
🌟 dry diapers at naps
🌟p**ping around the same time each day
🌟staying dry for 2 hours
🌟no nighttime p**ps
Let the adventure begin! Having these signs doesn’t ensure success but can be a good indicator. Make sure to see if you and your child are both also emotionally ready.
Feel like your child is so close to standing or walking independently?! Switch your hand helping them for a favorite toy and their confidence and balance will both grow!
We love pop up toys, spinners, sensory tubes and more! Give it a try and let us know how it goes!
Pediatric Pelvic Health can feel intimidating! Are you hesitant to make the appointment? I want to assure you today that at Bloom for All we make it fun and playful! We often hear from parents “they’ve been asking to come back to the p**p doctor”. It is never invasive! You don’t have to wait and see if it gets better because there are solutions that help!
Feeling unsure? Send us a DM and we would love to connect with you.
What is your goal for you child?
If your child tends to stay in one position try moving toys 6-12 inches away to encourage reaching on tummy, reaching in sitting, transitioning in and out sitting. This can be a game changer especially if it’s a toy they really want!
Does your child struggle to sit on the potty to p**p? Here are some practical tools to help you at home.
1) Take off the pressure of a result but instead teaching their body - “let’s together go sit on the potty to practice p**ping”
2) you can practice sitting on floor potty, regular potty or a bench. Wherever they are willing! Meet them where they are. Maybe bring a stuffed animal or blanket for comfort.
3) Sit in proper potty posture to practice
4) While sitting you can work on breathing and having your child pull something down to engage the abdominals!
Hope this helps! Want more tips? Download our constipation SOS guide on our website.

Often kids don’t want to sit on the potty or are scared to p**p so we meet them where they are! You can sit on a stool and make it fun, safe and relaxing! The pulling down activates the abdominals which help push the p**p out and adding breathing relaxes the pelvic floor making this the perfect combination to practice p**ping.
Considering seeing a pelvic health PT for your child? At Bloom for All we make it FUN and look like play leaving your child wanting to come back next time.
