In Remembrance of Sheila Jackson Lee 07/20/2024

The Libertarian Party of Harris County joins the greater Houston community in extending our condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Sheila Jackson Lee, who passed away after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

In Remembrance of Sheila Jackson Lee However, she maintained stances contrary to core Libertarian principles, such as gun rights, government-controlled healthcare, and immigration reform. Today, amidst our political differences, let us set aside disagreements. Instead, let us offer sincere condolences to those impacted by her loss and....

While President Trump isn't a Libertarian, he recently joined us at our national convention and spoke to our members.

Some in our party agree with him, and some don't, but no one in the Libertarian Party condones violence against him or any other candidate based on their ideology. We believe in the non-aggression principle.

What happened to President Trump today is a scar on all of us and inexcusable.

We are happy that according to a recent report, he is doing well. Our thoughts and prayers are going out to him and the other victims in the crowd.

If you believe in a high being, please pray for our state and country tonight.

Join us later this month for Happy Hour!

Can you believe it's already July? Campaigns are in full swing across the country, and the political landscape seems to change daily. For Libertarians, however, our course has always been clear: How do we elect Libertarians to positions of influence and continue to push the conversation toward liberty?

In Harris County, we have Chase Oliver, Ted Brown, Hawk Dunlap, David Roberson, Stephan Kinsella, and Mark Ash on the ballot for statewide races. State congressional candidates like Lee Sharp have a real chance of making a difference in Austin. LP Harris is dedicating resources from POTUS down to secure victories and advance our cause. We're more engaged in the election process in Harris County than ever before and always welcome volunteers.

June was a busy month for LP Harris. Juneteenth, commemorating the freedom that all enslaved people secured after the bloody Civil War, a very significant milestone as the US continues to expand its Libertarian roots. LP Harris was also highly visible at Houston Pride, featuring Chase Oliver our presidential candidate at both a booth and in the Pride Parade. A private fundraiser provided crucial funds to amplify our message during this contentious election, where neither traditional party candidate is a good fit for the job of President.

Never forget, it's easy to support liberty when it benefits you. It's principled when you support it for all people, always. Upholding liberty and freedom for marginalized groups has been central to the Libertarian Party for over 50 years. Since 1971, we've donated, volunteered, and marched for the rights of all people—gay, straight, native-born, immigrant, from diverse ethnic backgrounds, rich or poor. In the Libertarian Party, everyone finds a home.

July commemorates America’s Independence Day, founded on our forefathers’ enduring values that continue to drive the Liberty movement today. The Declaration of Independence reflects the mindset of its time, proposing a new relationship between people and government. While this holiday doesn’t require the solemn reflection of Memorial Day, we should move beyond fireworks and parades to contemplate the timeless ideals of inherent rights—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—endowed to every human being on this planet by our Creator.

Toward Liberty,

Mike Coogan, Chair of The Libertarian Party of Harris County

We had a great time at Houston Pride 2024 Yesterday! Here are the final results of "The Worlds Smallest Political Quiz". Many people learned they were Libertarians! We ended up plotting about 150 responses. A special thanks to Chase Oliver and his team, Ted Brown, Marco Ash, Lee Sharp, Amanda Gibbs, and the Libertarian Party of Montgomery County - Texas for helping us out!

Join us this Saturday at Houston Pride! Presidential Candidate Chase Oliver will be doing a meet and greet from 12-2 at our booth! State Candidates Ted Brown and David Roberson will also be there to spread the messages of liberty and equality.

Memorial Day 05/27/2024

This Monday marks the 156th Memorial Day in the United States, a day of remembrance for our fallen veterans. Parades will be held, prayers will be lifted, and great food will be shared. The Libertarian Party of Harris County joins our community in honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and grieves with their families. We recognize that many of those who serve come from diverse backgrounds and are simply seeking a better life for themselves and their families. Their honor is above reproach.

While acknowledging the complexities of global politics, we firmly reject violence and advocate for peaceful solutions to conflicts. We stand opposed to the use of American troops in foreign wars and call for their safe return home immediately. It is unconscionable that we are willing to sacrifice our children in poorly defined “forever wars” or regime change.

We seek a world free from the very need for a “Memorial Day”, where individuals have control over their own lives and can pursue their own happiness. We urge our leaders to pursue peaceful resolutions to conflicts and end aggression and coercion. We strive for freedom in our lifetime and will not be stopped in our pursuit of that goal. Join us.

In Liberty,

Mike Coogan

Chair, Libertarian Party of Harris County

The Libertarian Party National Convention is imminent, and Harris County, as the second largest county affiliate in the country, has a powerful voice and responsibility in these proceedings. A recent announcement about the inclusion of former President Donald J. Trump as a speaker at this upcoming convention has, understandably, sparked division among our candidates and constituents. Trump has flatly denied our National Chair’s requests for a debate or live questions from a moderator. Make no mistake, Trump's stated aim of courting Libertarian voters is openly self-serving. His record stands in direct opposition to the very ideas we hold as true. As we have said before, both he and President Biden have proven themselves as enemies to the very freedoms that we seek to protect.

In agreement with The Libertarian Party of Texas, The Libertarian Party of Harris County strongly opposes the inclusion of Trump, or any other opposing political candidate, in our National Convention. We respectfully request that the invitations be withdrawn by the Libertarian National Committee.

While the stated intention was to provide our party with unprecedented visibility, it comes with costs to our core values and our distinct identity. We are not an accessory or a platform for our political opposition nor do we support President Trump or President Biden in any way. Further, it serves as a distraction to our party's central mission of electing libertarian candidates and fighting for policies that maximize individual freedom.

Now, more than ever, we must remember that we're all part of the same libertarian family. We may sometimes disagree on strategy, but our shared goals and values must remain our unifying force. We urge everyone to not allow this to distract us from our central mission. Here in Harris County, we pledge to stay focused on what is important: building a transformative political force dedicated to limiting government overreach and expanding human freedom, and we will not give our opponents the opportunity to define who we as a community are.

In Liberty,
The Executive Committee of the Libertarian Party of Harris County
