The step-by-step breakdown of how I lost 10.3 pounds of fat while gaining 2.2 pounds of lean muscle…👇

💾 First, SAVE this reel so you don’t forget later!

1️⃣ I followed a full body workout 6 days per week for 2 reasons…

1) Allowed me to recover better because I was online doing 1 exercise per body part a day.
2) Since I was able to recover better, It allowed me to keep intensity higher (lift heavier) each day .

2️⃣ Training weeks followed a progressive overload model.

Each week I increased either the weight, reps or sets. Sometimes all 3 💪

3️⃣ Increased daily movement.

I work a pretty sedentary job as an online nutrition coach. A majority of my day is spent on phone/zoom calls with clients. I set a daily step goal of 10,000 to keep my daily activity up so I didn’t have to reduce calories as much.

4️⃣ Established a slight calorie deficit.

My goal here was to stay as close to my maintenance as possible while still losing fat. I established a strong set point prior to reducing calories so I knew exactly what I needed to do to lose weight. If you’re in too large of a calorie deficit and for too long to lose fat you may be losing muscle too. Your body needs energy to repair and grow (build muscle).

5️⃣ Prioritized whole, high quality protein.

I set my daily protein target at 1.1g per pound of body weight to help stay fuller longer and mitigate the loss of muscle tissue inside of a calorie deficit.

4 nutrition mistakes to avoid if you want to build lean muscle👇

💾 First, SAVE this reel so you don’t forget later!

Small adjustments to any one of these common mistakes or even better… All 4 🤩 can help you build more lean muscle mass quicker.

❌ 1. Not eating enough high-quality protein

Muscle growth, also known as muscle hypertrophy, happens when you combine the right resistance training workout program with adequate protein.

✅ Aim to eat somewhere between .8g - 1.2g per LB of bodyweight a day. A good place to start is in the middle!

❌ 2. Eating too few of calories

If your goal is specifically to build muscle, you should avoid being in a long-term calorie deficit altogether since your body needs energy to grow. Plus eating too few calories, might result in muscle loss in addition to fat loss.

✅ Aim to eat closer towards maintenance level calories (your TDEE) or just slight below.

❌ 3. Overlooking your carbohydrate intake

Carbs are an important source of energy that you’ll need when you’re giving it your all at the gym. Your body stores some carbs in a form called glycogen, which is found in your muscles and helps provide the power they need for high-intensity exercise.

✅ Aim to allocate somewhere between 30% - 50% of your total calories towards carbs depending on stress and activity level. More stress and more activity lean towards the higher end.

❌ 4. Not paying attention to your meal timing

Overall protein intake during the day ultimately matters the most, but you should also pay attention to when you are eating your protein if you want to maximize your gains.

✅ Aim to eat a nutritious meal high in protein and carbs within 30min - 1 hour of your workout to help your body recover with the right nutrients.

Keegan has been a roller coaster with his weight and health for a good portion of his life. Growing up mostly overweight, it effected his confidence in everything he did. When he would make attempts to lose weight he would find some success but wouldn't be able to maintain it in the long run. Mainly because of his competitive nature, he would go balls to the wall with everything he did he or do nothing at all because he had nothing to compete for. After multiple attempts not working the way he had hoped, he was pretty skeptical anything would work for him with where he was now in life.

But he didn't want to let that be the example he set for his wife and daughters, so he decided to give the challenge a try to kick start his efforts again.

The challenge helped him start to push past a plateau and connect some dots as to why he's struggled to sustain progress before, he decided to take another leap and joined the full program and I was lucky to get to be his coach.

We made sure to get absolutely clear on the real reasons he wasn't able to maintain his progress. Which was establishing balance between his goals and his life. Once he started to see that this doesn't always have to be a competition and he can show up for himself and his family, the momentum really started to pick up.

With a couple perspective shifts and improving his routine he lost about 30lbs, he's the leanest he's ever been, and performing at high levels in obstacle course races, crossfit, and now training for triathlons. All while being able to maintain all of his results on vacations, party's/events, and truly being present with his family without the expense of his own health.

I'm so grateful that I got to be the one to help Keegan build a life that he can be proud of and more importantly, sustain on his own. Well done my friend!
