"July is National Cord Blood Awareness Month! Celebrate by spreading the word about cord blood. Cord blood is the term used for the blood collected from the umbilical cord and placenta (after birth) when a healthy baby is born.
Cord blood banking means preserving the newborn stem cells found in the blood of the umbilical cord and the placenta. After a baby is born, and even after delayed cord clamping, there is blood remaining in the umbilical cord and placenta that holds valuable newborn stem cells."
Cord blood banking can be used to treat cancer, blood disorders, metabolic disorders, and immune disorders. You can donate cord blood from your own child to save another child's life, and/or you could store it (for a fee) to save your own child's life one day if needed. Click on the links for more information.

Are you looking for something fun and healthy to do this 4th of July weekend? How about skating? Not only is skating fun, but it provides an excellent cardio and muscle toning workout!
According to CNN Health,
"Roller-skating and rollerblading build core strength and improve stability in the lower body. Skating also improves upper body strength and mobility due to the pumping and swinging motion of the arms. As you're rotating your torso by using your core muscles, you're using your shoulders and arms to help propel you forward. The legs and glutes push you forward, too. Not only are you moving forward, but also you're moving side to side, which improves hip mobility and strength. Your quads, hamstrings, calves, glutes and hips work in unison to start skating, stop skating, speed up and slow down."
So, get moving! And, have a safe and healthy 4th of July!!!!

The Biden administration has begun distribution of monkeypox vaccines to at-risk groups, which include:
1. People that have been in close contact with others that have been diagnosed (including s*xual contact)
2. Men who have s*x with men who have had multiple s*xual partners in areas where the virus has been known to spread (this includes venues, events, or areas of the country)
"The virus is marked by a rash that looks like pimples or blisters, along with symptoms like fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes and chills. Symptoms typically begin seven to 14 days after exposure, but they may start earlier or as late as 21 days after exposure. In the current outbreak, the monkeypox virus is being spread primarily through intimate contact, including s*x and prolonged face-to-face interactions, Dr. Jennifer McQuiston, the deputy director of the CDC’s High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology Division, said...."
