This is the WORST case scenario when you get your nails done and they are using illegal acrylic (MMA). I’ve explained this to many of my clients.
You don’t have to come to me but please make sure your tech can IDENTIFY and tell you the difference.
Some techs don’t even know they are using MMA because the nail supply stores switch them out.

MMA is an illegal monomer used for dental work. Dental work is not meant to be temporary so it’s more difficult to remove and has chemicals that your nails absorb since they are only made up of mostly keratin. This leaves permanent damage like in the video, depending on how your body processes it.

When techs use it on purpose, it’s mostly because it’s cost efficient. It’s about half of the price of EMA liquid.

Some characteristics of MMA are:
-Smells stronger than the usual monomer
-When filing it smells foul
-It’s hardens faster when working
-When soaking off, it has a shiny gooey texture like gum or slime.
