🌪️ Hurricane Season is Here 🌪️

Did you know that land conservation is one of our best defenses against hurricanes? 🌿 Wetlands act as natural buffers, absorbing and storing massive amounts of rainwater, significantly reducing flooding risks.

Experts predict this will be the most active hurricane season we’ve seen. Be prepared with these quick tips:

Emergency Kit 🧰: Water, food, flashlight, batteries, first aid, medications.
Family Plan 🗺️: Evacuation routes, communication plan, shelters.
Stay Informed 📻: Follow your preferred local news for updates.
Secure Home 🏠: Cover windows, secure outdoor items, trim trees.
Pet Plan 🐾: Emergency kit, pet-friendly shelters, ID tags.
Support Land Conservation 🌳: Helps reduce flooding and hurricane impact.

Stay safe, Houston!

Do you know which watershed you live in? ⛈ When it comes to safety during heavy rain and storms, knowing this information is key as it determines where water drains to in your area.

Heavy rainfall this morning caused flash flooding in areas north of Houston. The West and East Fork of the San Jacinto River are experiencing severe flooding. If you live in these watersheds, be sure to check your preferred weather source for updates.

If you live in this area, it’s important to know your watershed to understand how and if flooding will impact you. Lake Conroe only feeds the West Fork of the San Jacinto River, but the East Fork doesn’t have a reservoir and isn’t affected by releases from Lake Conroe.

📢 Here are some resources to help you stay safe during flooding events:
