“I think of my ancestors who I cannot name— those who did not have rest— and I rest for them.” - actor Rennette E. Brown at a post show talk back. 🌾 A Maroon’s Guide to Time and Space has closed at MATCH and we wish all who poured themselves into this freedom forging journey, a very long and restorative pause. The sacred frequency of this production continues to vibrate in the hearts and minds of our audiences. Vibrations that will surely expand to communities and inspire new modalities of freedom-making in our own lives. D’Meza is a true seer of activation. Their work has proven a joyous and necessary experiment of imagination and protest as a form of collaborative play. An invigorating propulsion of change. Rest easy, good Maroon’s. There is work to be done yet, but for now, we rest. ✨

Stories: Mirrors of Identity 15/04/2022

“Why do we tell children stories?” Nigerian author Ben Okri says: “To poison a nation, poison its stories. A demoralized nation tells demoralized stories to itself. Beware of the storytellers who are not fully conscious of the importance of their gifts and who are irresponsible in the application of their art.”

Next Iteration Ensemble rises...

Next Iteration has produced, 2 Biennial ReadFest's, 3 annual Intercultural Play Readings Series, Next Iteration Presents, Next Iteration Conversations (professional development for Houston's acting community), a workshop production of Deb Margolin's Turquoise, and the development of our first devised work piece, Open Carry: It's Loaded, an absurdist romp looking at society and violence. At present, we are developing the workshop production of Open Carry as Next Iteration Ensemble.

Next Iteration Ensemble is a name that better reflects our style of theater, acting, and development. As a theater that is steeped in thought-provoking work, questioning of the status quo, imagining beyond the known, we are committed to the thoughtful investigation of our new work, characters and stories. To bring you the very best theater that we can, we need time for this development, time to break through the superficial and the trite and dive into the heart of the stories, characters, and professional delivery that we bring to you, our audiences.
