What increases the likelihood that a defense works? Striking!
Whether we are working with kids or adults, our training methods are the same. Striking and striking hard makes all the difference in self-defense.
Belt testing is just around the corner! Levels 1 and 2 belt testing will take place on Saturday, June 11th! Here are some tips to make sure you are prepped:

Inside defenses can be used for any straight punches coming inside the "guard" of the hands when they are up in a defensive position. Here are a few tips to avoid some of the most common mistakes we see in training.
๐
โโ๏ธ MISTAKE: Keeping the guard of the hands too close to the face.
๐ฅTHE FIX: Generally, in Krav, we want to have our defensive hand position about 6-8 inches from the face to make optimal defenses and quick strikes. If the hands are too close, this gives the defender a lower margin for error and requires them to respond even faster to the attack in order to make an effective defense.

โโ๏ธMISTAKE: Chopping or slapping the punch.
๐ฅTHE FIX: Inside defenses are not blocks, they are a redirection. Bring your hand to the center of your body in a smooth motion in order to guide the punch away from your face.

โโ๏ธMISTAKE: Forgetting you have to counter next! ๐ฅTHE FIX: When working your inside defense, take a moment to self-check where your weight is distributed. If you overcommit to the defense, you may not be in a position to counter as fast as possible. Make sure you are prepared to burst forward with your counter attack before the attacker's second punch can land!

DRILL DESCRIPTION: one student acts as the defender, the remaining students in class form a single file line and deliver repeated attacks. This provides the defender multiple reps on a single defense in a very short time to help facilitate building the motor skills required to make an effective defense.
Struggling with telegraphing? Try focusing on your breath! Practice throwing strikes at different points of your breathing cycle to prevent telegraphing and visibly โwinding upโ your strike.
Join 3rd Degree Black Belt Instructor Chris Williams for an intimate fi****ms workshop where you will learn how a pistol works and how to manipulate it under stress. This is hands-on training with real weapons. This is NOT live-fire training. Shooting a pistol is only a small piece of the puzzle.
This training is about increasing comfort level with handguns and respecting what a weapon can and cannot do. Shouldnโt you know? We think you should.

Simultaneous ๐ Defense ๐ and ๐ Counter ๐ is one of the principles of Krav Maga and simply means attacking and defending simultaneously. When you cover to defend a punch, donโt just cover send a combative too!
Training for the oscars be likeโฆ
Address the danger of a bear hug from behind by getting HEAVY ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ Drop your weight and immediately strike the groin to keep the attackers hips away. Prevent them from getting close enough to pick you up! Donโt let them take you anywhere!
Here are three options to incorporate with an arm drag to experiment with next time you find yourself pummeling: 1๏ธโฃ Leave 2๏ธโฃ Pin and Counter 3๏ธโฃ Choke. Remember that pummeling is a transition space and your biggest priority is to improve your position!
Dip that shoulder so you can come in with that uppercut and then extend all the way through for maximum power ๐ฅ
1๏ธโฃ Trap 2๏ธโฃ Buck 3๏ธโฃ Roll is the first groundwork technique you learn in the Krav Maga curriculum. We start by using our foot to trap one of the attackerโs legs. This prevents them from using that foot to base out. Then we buck, this collapses their structure by bringing their weight forward. Next is the roll which allows the defender to get to a better position so they can either continue the fight on the ground or get up and make space.
