We'd like to congratulate Besham Burgess on his graduation!! Little Besham has been serving his community since he joined as a junior at the age of 14, following in his father's footsteps! Both father and son are dedicated members of J.W. Hoysradt Hose Co 8 . Besham is joining the US Army National Guard, leaving for Basic Training July 1st. We at Hoysradt Hose thank you for your tremendous dedication to your community and to your country! Be safe and we will see you soon brother!!
Hoysradt Hose held their 1st annual picnic in years. Awards were passed out, documented in each picture. Thank you everyone for coming!!
Had a great time training with our brothers and sisters across the river last night!
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Honorary Member Harry “Rick” Rector. Rick served as a past Mayor of the City of Hudson and always went out of his way for our Company and Fire Department. Rick was always known to show up at firecalls, even the small ones, and ask what our members needed. Rick became an Honorary Member of J. W. Hoysradt Hose after his term ended as mayor, still attending many Company events. We send our condolences to his family, friends and the community of Hudson as a whole. Rick was one of the good ones. Here he is pictured with past chief Anthony Demarco and Commissioner Tim Hutchings.
Join us in wishing Chief Shawn Hoffman a Happy birthday!!! He turns the big 40 today!! Happy Birthday Chief!!!
This afternoon, 30-25 as well as Hudson Tower Ladder 32-55, were called to the scene of a working structure fire in Catskill. 30-25 arrived on scene seconds after Catskill’s first due engine. The crew from 30-25 stretched a line off of Catskill’s engine and immediately deployed it to the front door and went to work. Tower Ladder 32-55 arrived shortly after and its manpower backed up the crews inside. Great job by all companies involved. Photos courtesy of John Miller from the Athens Fire Department.
Members conducted a live burn drill tonight at the Columbia County Training Tower. This gives newer members an opportunity to see, hear and feel what a live fire is like, in a safer, more controlled environment. Big thanks to the Columbia County Fire Coordinators Officer for assisting with the drill.
Omar Abrahim is the lucky winner of our Basket of Cheer raffle!!
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Hoysradt!!! Stay tuned tomorrow, after the Catskill Winter walk, for the drawing of the Basket of Cheer raffle!!
At 3:20 pm City of Hudson Fire Department was dispatched to 407 Warren St for a possible structure fire, Smoke showing from the window, with possible entrapment. By the end of dispatch, Cars 1 and 2 arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire in the wall. Chief Hoffman, Asst Chief Pierro, along with Hudson Police Officers, entered the building and evacuated a woman from the 2nd Floor stairwell. Engine 30 and Tower 32 arrived seconds after. Engine 30 stretched a line to the 2nd floor. Tower opened up the wall from the platform. Greenport Fire stretched a 2nd line to the 3rd floor and checked for further extension. Fire was knocked down in 10 minutes. Teamwork and quick response stopped this fire from being much worse. Especially with the location of several buildings connected together. Great work by all!!!
We mourn with our brothers and sisters of Greenport Fire Dept. Greenport and Hudson Fire work closely together throughout the year and know LT Carp very well. Rest in peace Brother, we'll take it from here
We are deeply saddened to share the unexpected passing of Lieutenant Mike Carpenito on Tuesday. Our flags are lowered, and badges are covered as another one of our own has been called home too soon. Affectionately known around the firehouse as “LT” or “Carp”, Mike originally joined the department in 2014. His sons, Kevin & Jonathan, were both members and he joined out of his love for spending time with them. It is unusual for someone to join later in life and be as determined as he was to become an interior firefighter. In his first two years he completed Firefighter 1, EVOC, and Pump School. He went on to further his training throughout his tenure. From the beginning, Mike had an unmatched level of dedication to our company. He quickly became a staple in the firehouse…cooking dinners for meetings, taking the truck for service, anything you needed…Mike was your guy. He even voluntarily cleaned the firehouse weekly when our previous cleaner passed. In December of 2016 Asst. Chief Taylor…Captain Taylor at that time…approached Mike and asked him to run for lieutenant. This is a position that Mike humbly held until his untimely passing. In his 9-year tenure, Mike earned a Captain’s Award and Firefighter of the Year accolades. No matter the situation, you could always count on Mike to have a joke to lighten the mood. He was like a human joke book. Although his time with us was short, our company and department are the better for having him. We ask that you keep his family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Until we meet again, LT. God speed.
Generational firefighting at its finest! Two valued members of the company and community!
Hudson Senior High School student and My Brother's Keeper fellow Besham Burgess Jr. and his father Besham Burgess Sr. recently attended a fire alarm call at the Hudson Junior/Senior High School. Fortunately, there was no fire in the building, yet the District is grateful for their service!

4/18/2023 – Tonight, two Albany area TV stations will be broadcasting a 30 minute special program for the recruitment of firefighters and emergency services volunteers.
The show is called “FIREFIGHTERS, HELP WANTED…VOLUNTEERS NEEDED” and will air on WTEN at 7:00pm and on WXXA at 7:30pm.
The show focuses on the fact that there is a job for everyone in the emergency services, no matter what you do for a living. They highlight Junior firefighters as well as interviews with volunteers from around the state as to why they volunteer and why you should as well.
Whether you are between the ages of 16 and 17 for the Junior (restricted) firefighter category or 18 and over for the firefighter category, we hope you can tune in and watch tonight.

Thoughts are with our brothers and sisters in Buffalo. May he rest in peace 🙏
This 1940s siren was located in our bar downstairs. With the renovations, its home was removed for space. Its now back in service and a very nice addition to our apparatus.
Its tragic to lose 1 Firefighter but, to lose 3 and 1 on life support with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over his body, is heartbreaking. It hurts the entire Firefighting family. This is a dangerous job and it can happen to any one of us in a blink of an eye. No matter how hard you train, no matter how educated you are.
Our hearts go out to the Baltimore family and loved ones.
Rest in peace Firefighters
