Sweet Riesling Pickled Radishes

My radishes did very well this year due to a cool early summer. My harvest was huge with a beautiful plump German Giant variety that I received from the Hudson Valley Seed Company. With all those radishes, I decided to try a pickling recipe I've been holding onto for a while: Sweet Riesling Pickled Radishes. Delicious on their own, they're sweet from the wine and a hint of sugar, but still maintain that distinct radish bite from being processed so fresh from harvesting. [ 157 more words ]

That Hidden Giant

It happens every year. I spend days-no weeks, eying and spying on all my plants looking for first flowers, then buds, in hope they'll form that yummy fruit. Cucumbers are no exception. They're great at hiding their bounty from me underneath those umbrella leaves. And then there they are. Perfect little cukes just right for the taking. And I do. It’s not always perfect

Normally zucchini never has any problem growing and producing. As my grandmother would way, you'd be shoving them through the rear car windows of friends and family, just to get rid of them. But for some unknown reason, my zucchini plants are dying. The leaves are browning, shriveling up, and one by one, the plants are dying. I don't know if it's too much rain, not enough nutrients in the ground, just some blight I'm unaware of, or what. Nothing else seems to be so dramatically affected. I did get about 4 or 5 squash from the plants so far. But this is near tragic.

There are few things in this world more scary than a blank canvas staring back at me.

I still haven't decided how I feel about acrylics, after painting with oils for so many years. But working on a huge canvas is so refreshing! I almost forgot how much I enjoy my creative process to be a physical one as well!
