Wanna see some of our peli-friends returning to the wild? This is your chance!

Friday, August 2nd @ 10:00 am
Corona Del Mar State Beach (in southern California)

Bring your friends! Bring your family! There's a good chance this will be our last BIG pelican release for quite some time. So, if you haven't seen one before, we highly recommend coming out to watch.

If you can't make it out but you'd still like to support what we do, we're always in need of donations to keep our doors open.

Ah, the delicious taste of mushy, moist dog chow. Truly, only a refined palate could appreciate the subtle flavor and delectable texturing. Western Gull juvies are big fans and would pair the dish with a glass of sparkling salt water.

We've all had that awkward haircut, where we look in the mirror and go, Oh No. What Have I Done? But you just have to wait until it grows out. This barn owl is waiting so impatiently for the natal down to grow all the way out. Until then, it has to look Very Silly.

Volunteer of the month

Lara has been a volunteer at WWCC for close to two years now, and we truly are the better for it. Besides being an incredibly knowledgeable, amicable, and kind person, Lara did something truly special this July. Remember the Green Cheek fundraiser we had at the beginning of this month? We had lots of fun, lots of beer, and lots of connection with the community. Lara is the one who put the whole event together! Thank you so so so much, Lara!

Lara grew up in Australia, where she developed true love and respect for wildlife. She now lives here in Huntington Beach and works as an RVT at a small animal hospital! Even as someone with such a rich background in animal medicine (our words; Lara is too humble to say such a thing!), she still finds joy in learning about the very unique species she comes into contact with here at WWCC. Lara couldn't pick just one favorite animal, but says pelicans and baby opos hold a special place in her heart.

Thank you, Lara, for everything you do! We wouldn't be us without you :)

Fun fact: There's technically no such thing as a "seagull." Many people call all manner of gulls by that name, but there's no such species!
Fun lie: The word "seagull" comes from the old Norse word for "fry thief."

Please tern your attention, at the very least, to the least tern. Least could refer to its very slight stature as the smallest of all the terns, but I like to pretend they're mostly osprey. Jokes aside, like osprey, these birds strike down at the water to catch prey, giving them the alternate folk name "striker."
