Did you know that today marks the birthday of Touching Leaves Woman (Nora Thompson Dean, July 3, 1907 – November 29, 1984)? She would have been 115 today!
As a Lenape traditionalist and one of the last fluent speakers of the southern Unami dialect of the Lenape language, Touching Leaves Woman was an influential mentor to younger tribal members and is widely cited in scholarship on Lenape culture.
Sculptor Paul Oestreicher worked closely with Touching Leaves, creating early studies for this bronze bust of her at her home in Dewey, Oklahoma. Above all, it was her wish that knowledge of her people be preserved. It is hoped that this portrait of Touching Leaves Woman, and of other Lenape made by the artist, will help keep alive the faces, dreams, and dignity of this ancient and proud people.

We hope you enjoy Lori Kiplinger Pandy's new sculpture "Sunday Comics" as much as we do!
"Sunday Comics" was commissioned by a library patron for the Walker (MI) Public Library in honor of her late husband, his life-long passion for reading, and their local library. He actually learned to read when he was a child in the 1930s by following along and listening to the radio announcer reading aloud the Sunday comics.

Contact [email protected] for purchasing information and details.

Sculptor Herb Mignery’s family has a 110-year tradition of ranching near Bartlett, Nebraska. An award-winning Member Emeritus of the Cowboy Artists of America and Fellow of the National Sculpture Society, his elegant and classically rendered sculptures chronicle lives of people as they wrestled the land and elements of the early American West. Each of Herb’s sculptures completes a piece of the story of life in the West.
