Our congressional candidate, Paula Collins is walking in the Ilion Doo Dah parade on Friday.. She has asked that Democrats ( all - not just committee members) show up to SUPPORT HER. Be in the lineup area by CVA High School down by the baseball fields on Frederick St by 5:30-5:45. If you can, grab a bag of candy to throw to the crowds. Wear patriotic or blue. ( Nobody owns the rights to the red, white and blue. 🇺🇲)

Currently, we need members to remain a constituted committee. The committee structure is governed by NYS Election Law. We are also the only constituted committee in the County, which is unusual - most counties also have constituted city and town committees, which NYS Election Law considers to be subcommittees of the County Committee. Let's unite and keep from becoming a one-party county!

Sharing this to demonstrate that it CAN be done! ONE KEY? Voter turnout!! Second key- getting candidates to run - keeping the line on the ballot full EVEN IF they lose for awhile. This is how Columbia County did it...over time. Actual real races increase voter turnout but this is a 'longer game' - doesn't work as a 'one shot' approach because people get out of the habit of voting. Races are so important. Offering choices is important. This is hard. Running is hard, especially when nobody steps up to help share the work. It's hard to lose and understand that it is still important for a long range strategy. Can you think of someone you know who would make a good local candidate? How would you like to help a local candidate in 2025? What strengths or talents could you bring to a local race?

Our profound thanks goes out to those candidates who worked so hard for WE THE PEOPLE to run and yet did not win. The more Democrats who run, the more who win, and these runs are critical. If a favored candidate of yours did not get elected, chat with us about what YOU can do to make a difference. The more we work together, the more we can do. Every single person has the ability to help, in some small way. Please be sure to think about your talents and strengths. Can you donate? Call or visit your neighbors? Write a Letter to the Editor? Hold a house party for a candidate? Cook or decorate for an event? Staff a voter registration table? Help someone rehearse a speech? Create a graphic? Take a good picture? Write postcards? Door knock or deliver literature? SHARE our POSTS? Vote more regularly?

Many of us get excited (and frustrated) at the national political news - the recent House speaker selection being a case in point. But did you know that there is something that you can do to help, right here in Herkimer County?
The state and national Democrats have pretty much written off NY21 and the race against Stefanik as a lost cause. Her fundraising from outside sources is vast and yes, Republicans turn out at EVERY election, whereas Dems are not as consistent in their voting habits.
And although we will strongly support the Democratic candidate for President and will urge everyone to vote, the reality is that the votes in Herkimer County will not make OR break that election.
We at this level bear some responsibility for this situation. This is what happens when there is little support and commitment for Democrats running at the local level. There is no 'building of the bench' for up-and-coming electeds and we wind up with one party carrying overwhelming control of our area.
We have consistently had fewer and fewer candidates step up for those local entry point races, and we need more committee membership. In other counties like ours, this is where change is happening - in spite of the statistics. Seat by local seat, door by door, when Dems turn out to run and to vote, more Dems start to get elected. Even in heavily Republican areas! And more Dems start to vote in every election!
This solution will take time, dedication and more folks stepping up. It is true that all politics is local. It all matters. By overfocusing on National news, local Democrats have been losing ground right in our own neighborhoods. We are also 'building the bench' for seats like the NY 21 Congressional seat. Without candidates coming up through the local counties, the party is challenged to find candidates to run. When the NY21 Race comes up next year, do not be surprised if there is no Democratic Candidate. Candidates for races like that should come from the local 'bench'. We need to rebuild that!

Someone recently asked for a good map of our district. Here is one that came up today. Notice how HUGE NY21 is. Tough territory to cover and yet Matt Castelli has done it - a Town Hall in EVERY County. EVERY SINGLE ONE. And he has been here at least 3 times. He cares about Herkimer County even without WKTV coverage.

Matt is not an election denier like Elise Stefanik. We need a representative who will defend our Constitution and democracy! Vote for Matt Castelli !!!
