The Stem and Leaf Plot
Urban micro flower farm in Indianapolis. Learning as we grow. 🌻
Oh yes. We like this one.
It may be storming outside but these home-grown beauties are bringing the sunshine in my kitchen!
It's going to be a beautiful day for transplanting some bebes into the garden! We've got bachelor's buttons, sweet peas, and our first round of sunflowers ready to go out 🤗😍
Some days, you just need a vase full of fancy daffodils on the dining room table, ya know? 😍
Flowers remind me that even on my hardest days, there's still beauty in the world.
Make new catmint from your old catmint! This is so easy. It took me less time than going to a garden center!
1. Pull some shoots from the edge of the plant. They'll probably have some little roots, but it should work even if they don't.
2. Pinch off all but just a few leaves.
3. Put them in some potting soil.
4. Water.
5. Cover with a fancy humidity dome (a Ziploc in my case 🤣) and put in a warm sunny area.
Come back in a couple weeks to new plants for your garden!
Squeeee! The first round of sunflower seeds has been started!
These babies will be going outside under protection in 2.5 weeks and if all goes well we'll have sunnies blooming in 60-70 days at the end of May! 🤗 🌻
From now until the end of August, I will be starting 72 sunflowers every week so that I have a continuous supply.
Varieties sown:
- 24 white lite
- 12 gold lite dmr
- 12 double quick
- 6 lemon sorbet
- 6 Moonshadow
- 6 dwarf teddy bear
- 6 double dandy
Which one do you like the best??

I'm resurrecting the farm page this year! Follow along on Instagram and Facebook to see what I'm up to, get info about buying my flowers, and get tips on how to grow your own cut flowers!
This morning let's talk daffodils! Did you know they make amazing "cut" flowers?? Cut is in quotes there, because I want you to leave your snips in the house. To harvest for the longest vase life:
1. You want to harvest when the buds are colored up and the necks are bending like the ones in the top left corner of this picture. This is called gooseneck stage.
2. Leave your snips in the house! Daffs leak a sap when cut, and it reduces vase life of other flowers. To minimize this & get the longest stem, PULL from the base of the stem until it snaps.
3. Let them sit in water for at least 4 hours by themselves before mixing with other flowers. Then get some clean water in their jar and DO NOT RECUT the stems when you add them in with other flowers. They'll start to leak that sap again.
The open flowers were in the gooseneck stage when I harvested them last night.
Now go forth and enjoy my favorite spring bulb!
