“Each one of us descend from people who have been in an intimate and reciprocal relationship with plants and seeds since the dawning of time” Rowen M White- seed keeper and farmer from the Mohawk community of Akwesasne. As soon as I saw this quote shared by @artistmegansara from the @illuminative page it struck such a deep chord in me. How have we become so disconnected from these roots and how can we repair and reintegrate this intimate sans reciprocal relationship? Do you talk to your kids about land stewardship? Do you regularly offer gratitude and acknowledgment to the indigenous stewards of your land? How connected do you feel to your ancestors? Despite growing up surrounded by forests and camping often with my family, it’s taken me way too long to develop the humility and openness for these practices. I learned very little about the indigenous peoples of Indiana in school and what was taught came steeped in colonial values and white suprematist mindset. I have a lot of unlearning to do and hope to give my children a slightly more honest upbringing. This Saturday (July 10) we’re hosting an introduction to land stewardship for kids. Just one hour to explore the concept and plant some seeds, figuratively and literally. It’s a new program suggested by our friend @haas.sarah and I’m excited to see where it leads. This program is Free and open to all ages. Hope you and your family can make it and share how you honor the land and your ancestors.

Quick little tour of our Willow meditation hut. Greg started cultivating this structure in March of 2020 with locally collected dwarf willows, and designed the deck with this in mind back in 2019. It’s coming along very nicely. Don’t you think? He often uses this space for his somatic experiencing sessions and general meditation practice. The chickens and tots also love to scoot in and around. One term for this type of natural architecture is fenge- a combination of fence and hedge. I love it so much! I want a dozen more. #fenge #naturalarchitecture #willow
