“Glioblastology”
In June 2016, 34 years old, in otherwise good health, and wrapping up graduate requirements to earn my master’s degree in philosophy, I was experiencing strange “episodes,” including dizziness, left-sided weakness, and problems with balance.
“If there were something seriously wrong with you, you’d be in much worse shape.”
My general practitioner was stumped. We ruled out positional vertigo, poor circulation, a pinched nerve, and poor stress management as possible causes of these strange episodes. Yet, they were increasing in frequency, duration, and intensity! I was “healthy on paper”: all usual biomarkers, including weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and more were within normal ranges, but I struggled through the episodes, occurring three times or more daily, and my gut told me something was badly wrong.
“You know you’re going to die rom this?!”
