Everyone meet WL2 Joe K's new truck! Joe just got back from a nine hour trip to get this truck and it just spent the last 5 hours working can't even be stopped long enough for its stickers! This truck will be used mostly for private property impounds. I'm kind of toying with the idea of the Joe's Quick Tow logo in ghost lettering? Tell us what you think!

Any time you are stopped along the road, you and other drivers are in danger. Call 911 to report your issue and our free Highway Helper service may be dispatched to assist. Highway Helpers patrol the freeway systems in Des Moines, Council Bluffs, Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, and Quad Cities metros to help change tires, provide fuel, and jump-start vehicles to get you back on the road.

On Jan. 2nd, 2024 We lost a huge peice of our family, and our hearts. Amy, Georgie's mommy, Gages 2nd Mom & my spouse of over a decade. We are in shock. This was a sudden and very unexpected loss.
We are doing what we can, but normal business has been impacted. We're sorry if you have been unable to reach us this last week, please don't hold it against us. We should be able to resume our regular schedule today, but there may be a noticeable lag, as we are grieving and trying to navigate what our new normal will be. **update** I have learned I have no control over grief we have been closed, phones off all week. Amys services brought the reality and weight of this all crashing down on my world. I made the decision that family was absolutely more important, and not being with Georgie was not an option. I hope and feel confident regular service will resume Monday the 21st. But nothing is guaranteed. Until I feel Georgie is comfortable with my absence, or the roads safe enough he can come (that would mean no roadside work period) I'm just cant. I am so sorry I couldn't help you guys during these storms but I started this business for my kids and I'm not putting it before at any cost.
All of that said this does not mean your business is in any way a burden if I can help you I will! PLEASE call if you need something, but be understanding if I cant, or if our phones are off. Any time you see a vehicle with its flashing lights on, move over if you can. The person on side of the road wants to make it home safely, too.

Friends/Folks who are not in the towing business, most likely dont understand why this is necessary. Most people do not know how much danger hybrids and electric vehicles pose if the electrical and/ or batteries become compromised in an accident or incident. Often the lithium in these batteries catches fire, when it does it burns HOT! & It burns for extended periods of time! This particular reaction is very difficult to extinguish. When it is, finally (or assumed to be) extinguished, often it will reignite. More often then not!
I have heard of under-funded, remote, or fire departments lacking the resources to continue hosing them down, with thousands upon thousands of gallons of water, that will drag or drop them into nearby water sources. Like nearby lakes, rivers or ponds, to drown them out. There is at least one example, I've seen reported, that of someone's private backyard swimming pool being utilized.
The liability is not just limited to the risk of losing the causality to fire. I have personally heard of half a dozen companies losing their shops, or out buildings, some, their entire fleet of trucks and damaged EVs starting fires that burn hundreds of other cars throughout impound lots, across the country, and across the globe. They pose a danger to our businesses, our safety and, our livelihood.
Fortunately with the right training, knowledge, the right equipment, and practices, we can greatly minimize that risk.
Building fire containment stalls/bunkers, like this one, isolates these vehicles. That keeps them from catching/spreading fire onto nearby vehicles or buildings, if they ignite.

Call #8 today. I started after this one this morning but had to turn around 1 hour out and come back to Iowa City because one of my best accounts called. They ended up canceling. It was for the best. I would have had to turn away at least five of the other calls. Sometimes things work out, but I need another truck and driver. This time of year many of us have extra tasks to get completed with the holidays quickly approaching. If you’re also traveling, trying to multi-task when you’re behind the wheel might be tempting.

Distractions while driving come in three categories:
1. Taking your eyes off the road
2. Taking your hands off the wheel
3. Taking your mind off the task of driving

Any one of these can be dangerous, but combining them significantly raises your chances of a bad outcome.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,
• Eight percent of fatal crashes, 14 percent of injury crashes, and 13 percent of all police-reported motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2021 were reported as distraction-affected crashes.

• In 2021 there were 3,522 people killed and an estimated additional 362,415 people injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes involving distracted drivers.

• Five percent of all drivers involved in fatal traffic crashes in 2021 were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. Seven percent of drivers 15 to 20 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the fatal crashes.

• In 2021 there were 644 nonoccupants (pedestrians, pedal cyclists, and others) killed in distraction-affected traffic crashes.

So far this year in Iowa, 337 people have been killed in traffic crashes. That’s an increase of seven since last Friday. In Iowa in 2022, there were 338 traffic-related deaths. Sneak peak. After many late nights, our secured lot is coming along. This lot will be used to store accident vehicles for insurance companies, and secure vehicles impounded off private property.
(Neither are pleasant situations, but we will do everything we can to treat you fairly and respectfully if you find yourself here)

Local Friends, I need some old 4in steel pipe, galvanized is okay too. Looking for 10ft+ lengths. To be used for a security fence so any condition but need so be mostly straight. I'm not looking to buy at retail or have new materials. I have panels (could use more) and gates. Any leads?

Our daily average now running around 3 completed calls during business hours and 1-2 competed calls after hours. Doesn't sound like much, but when you take into account 25% of our calls have been out of town, or out of our local area (meaning longer calls), & I'm only 1 person, combined with setting up our new shop and secure lot (more on that soon) its a pretty full day.
