Performing Arts At Iowa presents "Fierce"
The multi-departmental collaboration of "Fierce" was a sparkling highlight of the Hancher season! “Fierce,” a new opera composed and directed by University of Iowa School of Music assistant professor William Menefield, featured 63 University of Iowa students on stage and behind the scenes. Co-produced by the School of Music, Hancher Auditorium, and the Performing Arts Production Unit, with students from University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts and University of Iowa Department of Dance in the cast and creative team. "Fierce" demonstrated the power of creative collaboration in Performing Arts At Iowa. Last weekend, Hancher hosted the first ever–but not expected to be the last–collaboration between the coral and jazz programs at the University of Iowa! The University of Iowa School of Music’s jazz orchestra, Johnson County Landmark and its premier choral ensemble, Kantorei, along with some amazing guest artists (including a tap dancer!) performed "The Best of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts" leaving audience members with a night to remember. The concert—which was free and attended by a large and appreciative audience in Hancher Auditorium—featured guest soloists Dr. Emorja Roberson (vocals – Emory University), Tina Haas-Findlay (vocals—Des Moines), Jazz 88.3 KCCK-FM on-air personality Hollis Monroe (narrator), and tap dancer Evan Zukin, a 3rd-year student in the University of Iowa Department of Dance #PerformingArtsAtIowa
