Hey everyone! I came across this interesting math problem, and I thought I'd share it with you all:
Problem: "How many integers between 10 and 500 begin and end in 3?"
At first glance, it might look a bit tricky, but let's break it down together!
Step 1: Understand the Range
We’re looking for numbers that are greater than or equal to 10 and less than or equal to 500.
Step 2: Identify the Possible Forms
These numbers could either be two-digit or three-digit numbers.
Two-digit numbers: They need to start with 3 and end with 3. The only possibility is 33!
Three-digit numbers: These will be in the form of 3b3 where both the first and last digit is 3. That means numbers like 303, 313, 323, …, 393 so b=0,1,2, . . . 9.
Step 3: List Them Out!
For three-digit numbers, the middle digit can be anything from 0 to 9.
So, we get 10 possibilities: 303, 313, 323, 333, 343, 353, 363, 373, 383, 393.
Step 4: Count 'Em Up!
We have 1 two-digit number: 33.
We have 10 three-digit numbers: 303, 313, 323, 333, 343, 353, 363, 373, 383, 393.
So, the total is 11 integers! 🎉
Final Answer: There are 11 integers between 10 and 500 that begin and end in 3.
