Redness and a little bit of swelling is common. If you're fighting a cold or had a lot of wine (alcohol) in the last week your body is a bit inflamed and therefore will result in more sensitivity to the procedure. Any redness/swelling will dissipate within 24hrs.

A topical anesthetic is applied to help with any discomfort. Most clients claim it to be more of an annoyance than painful.
