Jackson Reptile Expo

Hi everyone!

Yesterday was undeniably busy, far more busy than we had anticipated it was going to be. While we love the response and appreciate everyone coming out it lead to the building being absolutely packed and caused some logistical issues.

I'd like to address some of the concerns we've had below that we received on our public forum page.

1. First there was a concern for fire safety and we'd like you to know that although it was very busy, we were still within the amount of people allowed to be in the building at one time. All Fire exits were open at all times in case of an emergency.

It was also mentioned that the vendors had a large amount of space within the islands. All the vendors within those island are confined to them the better part of the day and typically have a lot of stuff they have to keep within those islands from when they are transporting animals to the show. So the space is needed for them as they do not have anywhere else to put equipment during expo hours.

2. Next was foot traffic flow. With this being our first show in the new building, we are still learning the best way to handle the flow of traffic. We were already discussing before the show ended how we can better improve flow for the following show to help avoid people becoming jammed up.

As for the vehicle situation, we will be talking to the grounds keepers about opening up other gates to allow for more seamless traffic in and out of the event area.

3. Someone did mention that it was a "Reptile show" not an Exotic Animal Expo.

First, Reptiles/amphibians are exotic animals they always have been and always will be considered that. We do not just have Reptiles and Amphibians, we do have other animals there that are also considered exotic animals (invertabrates, chinchillas, Hedgehogs, birds, sugar gliders and more). We chose to use "Exotic Animal Expo" because it's a more inclusive term that covered the wide variety of animals patrons can see there any given month.

4. NON flash photography IS allowed.

With that said though, you do need permission from each vendor to take pictures of their animals. All vendors do reserve the right to decline photographs if they wish so please be respectful.

We are taking everyone's opinions and thoughts in and we will strive to continue to make the show better. We DO hear you, I promise. We are looking into expanding to give more walking room, but can not promise that will happen by the next show.

We appreciate the massive support we received and look forward to making improvements to provide the best expo possible for patrons and vendors alike!

We would like to remind everyone that Personal pets are not allowed at the show due to biosecurity risk. Service animals are welcomed though.

Our hearts and prayers goes out to Brian Barczyk and his family.

He has made such a huge impact in the reptile community through education and inspiration. It's hard to find the words to say more, but no one should have to go through what they are going through right now 💔

For those who may not know of him, he owns The Reptarium. He was diagnosed with cancer and just suffered two strokes. The prognosis is not good and the doctor said his time is limited.

Hey!

We will be collaborating with one our awesome vendors 8 Legs Fangs and Things at this next show.

We will be raffling off these 2 enclosures! The raffle will be free, and a $35 voucher is included that can be used at their table but only during the show on November 5th.

The 1st person to win, will choose which enclosure they want and receive the voucher, the 2nd person to win will receive the enclosure that is left.

The raffle will take place at 1pm during the expo and prizes must be claimed before the expo closes!

This will unfortunately be the last expo we will be holding in the Jackson area for the foreseeable future. Our current venue has signed a permanent contract with another organization and we were not informed until afterwards. We are exploring other venue options at this time but currently do not have any expos on the books for the Jackson area.

That being said we would like to announce the creation of the Saline Reptile Expo which will be held at the Washtenaw County Fairground (5045-5093 Ann Arbor Saline Road) through the 2024 season!

We are already booking vendors for our first expo on January 6th and expect to have an amazing turnout.

As always we are commited to providing quality experiences for our vendors and patrons alike and look forward to seeing you all in the 2024 season!

This amazing and curious peach throat monitor had fun at the photo booth, Domanik's exotics was kind enough to loan this colorful beauty for some photos!

You will notice the lack of a water mark on this photo. The reason for that is it was taken by the son of Ethan and Suzanna Domanik from Domanik's Exotics. We can't wait to see where this young man's love of photography takes him! This little three-legged bearded dragon was rescued by Dave and Journey's Creations and is just one more example of the great work Dave does!
