Happy Friday, folks…now before you all go and start getting a bunch of tats, wanted to share some context…
The recent policy change (with more to follow) is part of a tiger team we established to help with recruiting people to join our Air Force.
Currently, tattoos are the 3rd highest disqualification factor for enlisted accessions - behind physical and citizenship standards. And, the number of tattoo disqualifications has risen every year since 2017…In fact, 4,240 leads were closed out, due to tattoos, between fiscal year 2018 to 2022. The data shows that 1,352 leads would have qualified for entry into our Air Force every year if hand tattoos had been authorized.
We are potentially losing high-quality Airmen to a policy that has not kept pace with the times. This is about evolving standards…not lowering them. And this is about bringing in the talent we need to build the Force of the Future.
Again, this is one of the many policy changes we are looking at when when it comes to addressing barriers to service, and is separate from the Uniform Board Results, which are being finalized.
We will continue to expand our scope, leverage the strength that comes from Airmen (and future recruits), and ensure we offer opportunities and pathways to service for America’s sons and daughters.
🚧 UPCOMING TRAFFIC CHANGES 🚧

The observation of National American Indian Heritage Month has its roots in Public Law 99-471. Over several years the observation was moved to different months but in 1990 Public Law 101-343 set the month-long observance in November. Each year the President issues a Proclamation in recognition of the observance. National American Indian Heritage Month is observed from 1 - 30 November of each year. The observance month recognizes American Indians for their respect for natural resources and the Earth, having served with valor in our nation's conflicts and for their many distinct and important contributions to the United States.
