Finding a low-interest rate is great but may change by the time you're ready to close your mortgage deal. Locking in your rate can save your from the stress of your rate increasing.

Mortgage points are be a reliable way to reduce the interest you're charged, depending on the structure of your loan. These points are paid up front so they may not be the best option in every situation.

A fixed-rate mortgage is secure but may cost more at the beginning than an adjustable-rate mortgage. On the other hand, if rates go up, you'll eventually pay more on the adjustable-rate loan.
