Our team checked on the progress of a few Kansas City-based projects last week. From a healthcare facility (KVC Behavioral Health at Olathe Medical Center), to a corporate headquarters office space (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City), and a justice center (Lenexa Justice Center), these are three examples of the breadth of Aptitude's work.

The ability to design and deliver that directly impacts caregivers and patients in a setting is at the heart of Aptitude's work. “The patient experience is deeply intertwined with caregiver experience in a healthcare setting. The technology tools caregivers have at their fingertips can enhance their ability to be more knowledgeable and responsive to an individual patient’s unique needs and can also help automate mundane tasks so they can focus more on the people part of their caregiver role.”

Aptitude's Design Phase Services team does more than design - we problem solve, test, and demonstrate to ensure projects go as planned too. For example, we recently set up a test run for developer Hatteras Sky and our own operations team to demonstrate that the access control system we designed will operate seamlessly with the property management platform planned for Saiya, the 23-story apartment high-rise project being constructed in the Roosevelt Row Arts District of Downtown Phoenix.

Coincidentally, it was Take Your Child to Work Day, so we were joined by a future team member!

Last week, our Nashville-based team, along with and our trade partners, celebrated the topping out of the Convexity Properties 16-story 5 City Boulevard office tower. The group enjoyed lunch together and raffled off prizes! Aptitude is excited to help bring the for this project together and see the progress of a beautiful new midtown Nashville office space. Aptitude had a great time participating in the Tennessee State University career fair this week. It was inspiring to meet many bright students interested in AEC and technology-related careers. The future is looking bright with these talented individuals joining the workforce!

Aptitude is taking on an exciting new project with construction of the LG Chem cathode battery plant in Clarksville, Tenn. Members of our team recently traveled to Seoul, South Korea, to meet with LG Chem’s IT leaders to begin planning for this project’s technology design. “We really enjoyed meeting with the LG Chem team and visiting South Korea,” said East Region Operations Director John Cooper. “This is an exciting opportunity for us to work on a manufacturing plant that will be the first of its kind in in the U.S.”

“I’m proud to be a woman in construction. Technology and innovation in our industry is on the leading edge. Sometimes I pause and think about times when women weren’t allowed to work at all. It makes me marvel at the progress we’ve made. We can and always have been able to excel at anything," said VDC Manager Reese Moore. Thank you for celebrating with us... there are so many talented women who are making an impact and inspiring the next generation to consider an career!

"I hope to bring a fresh perspective and ideas to the construction industry, showing the younger generations that just because you are different than the majority of the work you go into, doesn’t mean it should stop you from doing it," said Jordan Overfield, a Project Coordinator based in Austin.

“I hope that I can help more women see construction as an industry they can be confident and successful in," said Peggy Olivarez, a Project Manager in our Kansas City office.

"As a mom of two young girls, I want to show them that it’s okay to pursue their dreams. Even if their dreams don’t look similar to their peers," said Kathy Goodlaxson, Aptitude Project Accountant.

"I hope to one day be able to share my experience with high school girls who are at an impasse on what they want to do, open more doors to them, give them more choices. I was not afforded a lot of information on career choices when I was young. I had no idea this male dominated field could provide fulfillment for me," said Kari Hay-Alexander, a Project Administrator based in our Kansas City office.

Join us in celebrating this week! "I hope to make an impact as a woman in the construction industry by giving a different perspective, empowering others, and helping inspire more women to join the industry," said Katy Andrews, Project Coordinator in our Nashville office.
