Information Super-Highway: The Pros and Cons of Smart Pavement 01/11/2023

Are we living the "City of Tomorrow"? The reality is that the new generation of electric and autonomous vehicles and demand for data will require upgraded infrastructure. Check out this article from ForConstructionPros.com featuring Smart Pavement - our answer to integrating advanced mobility within our communities.

Information Super-Highway: The Pros and Cons of Smart Pavement Smart pavements have the potential to transform roadways into support platforms for EVs, autonomous vehicles, and, also, for data services. How can road builders utilize this emerging technology, and what greater implications could there be?

Managed lanes are where a set of lanes within a freeway cross section are separated from general-purpose lanes. Examples of this include HOV lanes and toll lanes. These lanes offer optimized traffic flow to help reduce congestion and allow for road flexibility.

This lane management strategy has gained interest over the last few years in areas that want to see a more effective and efficient future of freeways. On top of this, having interstates that are compatible with traffic data tracking, 5G, and wireless charging all contribute to a better roadway system.

At Integrated Roadways, our 5G deployment capabilities are cheaper than the average system because we hide the antennas in the roadway so they’re secure and invisible.

This means individuals receive greater signal strength and sustained coverage. Learn more: http://bit.ly/3hUok8t

Electric vehicle charging is gaining recognition in different communities across the nation. With the widespread interest, more charging stations are becoming available which could increase issues of theft and vandalism. Security of these stations is important. One solution is dynamic (in-motion) charging which limits the chance of theft since there’s no need for stopping.

Integrated Roadways’ digital infrastructure is designed with the needs of the next generation in mind. That’s why our roadways are completely upgradable.

With its modular precast design, our concrete slabs are built to be easily and quickly removable, without damaging the paving slabs or neighboring pavement, for any repairs or upgrades. We have developed an “edge connector” outlet system hidden at the edge or each slab to make it easy for roads to be plugged in during construction and unplugged for removal.

Why your phone's GPS desperately needs a huge overhaul | Digital Trends 12/01/2022

Your GPS is critical for navigation but did you know that these systems have a higher chance of experiencing complications due to outages and interference? As autonomous vehicle usage increases, the need for better tracking systems rises.

Founder and CEO Tim Sylvester explains, “The coming wave of autonomous vehicles may require a better location system. The most promising alternative to GPS for connected and autonomous vehicles is Alternative Positioning, Navigation, and Telemetry (APNT). This method is built into the local infrastructure, including cell antennas, Bluetooth beacons, Wi-Fi, or other ‘alternative’ means to position, navigate, and receive vehicle telemetry.”

Self-driving trucks might cause headaches for city leaders, says one roadway executive 11/22/2022

As great as autonomous trucking sounds regarding time and sustainability, it also poses liability and curb management issues for local governments. Roadway redesign and lane segmentation are essential to support the needs of autonomous trucking and delivery systems before their use can be more widespread.

Integrated Roadways CEO and Founder, Tim Sylvester, provides more commentary on the issue in the latest Smart Cities Dive feature: http://bit.ly/3V79XM1

Self-driving trucks might cause headaches for city leaders, says one roadway executive Despite saving time, improving safety and cutting carbon emissions, as one study found, driverless delivery vehicles pose liability and curb management issues, says Tim Sylvester of Integrated Roadways.
