First Ghana Update! After our first day at the hospital we walked around some of the streets of Accra and found a Frozen Yogurt shop. On day 2 we had our first rotation at the FOCOS hospital. I was in the lab, where I got use to my phlebotomy certification to draw blood and then learned how to run lab tests on the samples. Then later that night we visited the Sky Bar, which is at one of the tallest buildings in Ghana, where we could take in amazing views of the city. From this we stumbled upon the largest party in Ghana, 90s Jam! It was an amazing experience to go see what the nightlife was like and can’t wait to see more of it through out the trip.
On day 3 we had a tour of Accra, which included stopping at the Independence Square where in 1957 the “Big Six” announced Ghana’s Independence from Britain before marching to their parliament building to change power. They now host a music festival and a parade here every year. Our next stop was at Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was a part of the “Big Six” before splitting into his own political party and becoming the first president of Ghana. This memorial park was built in the 1990s where a British polo court originally stood. The giant structure in the middle of the park is where Dr. Nkrumah is buried alongside his wife. If you look at the structure of the building it looks like a tree, to symbolize Dr. Nkrumah resting under a tree. The tree is missing branches to symbolize his unfinished business and is surrounded by water to signify life. If you look carefully at the structure, the sides are sharp like a sword pointed down, which symbolizes peace because Dr. Nkrumah was a peaceful man. We closed out our tour of Accra by stopping at the Arts Market and doing some shopping.

I’m excited to be starting 2024 off by going to Accra, Ghana for the next 23 days to shadow at the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital! Excited to share more pictures of this amazing experience!

What an amazing weekend racing in Indiana! I’m very excited to have been able to get back into the water and race this past weekend and can’t wait for our upcoming college training trip with the best teammates!

Happy homecoming! It was very exciting to be on this year’s homecoming court!!

I had some great swims this week on Indianapolis! Can’t wait for the next meet!

All packed and ready to go! I leave for Tucson tomorrow afternoon!!

Last night I had the great honor of accepting the 2018 DFW Night of Superstars award! I would like to thank Men’s Wearhouse for the tuxedo and my sponsors for the event Jason and Jenifer McAlister and Greg Johnson for hosting such an amazing event!!

That that’s the end of the week with a total of 7 swims and 17 miles!

Swim Across America today! I raised $350 for cancer research! Thank you to everyone who donated!

I had a great time racing with everyone outside of the water! I found out that I’m just as good driving with my legs!🥇

Starting the weekend off right, with 3500 yards!

Today I had tryouts for High School swimming. I’m on Varsity for now the third year in a row!

1 day post Zones and I’m back at the pool! No rest forthe committed!

Another great race tonight! 3.5 second drop and a gold medal!! Tomorrow is the 100 freestyle
