Look At The Spiders
A page where I'll share my spider photos as well as images of spiders and insects from other pages.
I mentioned before that I had an illustration of the field of vision of a jumping spider - true 360-degree vision. Anterior medial and lateral are in color; posterior medial and posterior lateral are black-and-white. What a design!
Misumena vatia female on 25JUN2022. Kennebunk, Maine USA. Just hanging out on a flower, waiting for a friend to join her.
Mimetus puritanus, one of the pirate spiders, in Kennebunk, Maine USA on 07MAY2022. Could be M. notius, but I don't think it is. Oh, and if you didn't notice, this is a male. Look at those fat pedipalps! Pirate spiders trick other spiders into thinking they have prey in their webs, then kill and eat the web owner and take it over for a bit. Pirates!
Never shared this cute photo. I think it's a juvenile Phidippus californicus. 22AUG2022 in Lafayette, Colorado USA.
I was positive I posted these earlier today, but I guess I didn't. This is a male Habronattus clypeatus I found at the top of Anemone Point in Boulder Colorado USA on 30MAY2023. This is the monate form, as evidenced by the swollen orange third femur.
Pardosa sp., thin-legged wolf spider 13MAY2023 somewhere in Colorado (probably Lafayette, but maybe Boulder). Very pretty!
Peligrina sp. female in Boulder, Colorado USA on 21JUL2023. She wanted to explore my arm.
Should be Cheiracanthium sp. in my garden back on 04SEP2023. A sac spider. Probably/possibly Cheiracanthium inclusum, which per my Sarah Rose book can be found in low-growing plants. This was in a low-growing plant. A good, bright photo 😊 Lafayette, Colorado USA.
I decided these were going to be my Christmas socks. I bought them like 2 years ago and found them this morning 🕷️ so thought I should wear them.
In case anyone is looking for a last-minute Christmas gift 😅🎁🌲 Happy holidays!
Last night, I posted some lacewing eggs/larvae, but I didn't provide much context on what I was showing. Here's a cool example of one I found back in 2022 in Maine. I'm sure speciation at hatching is near impossible.
Not a spider! I found some lacewing eggs on the underside of a wood beam yesterday morning at San Antonio Botanical Garden near the rose area. Very small! Took a couple of photos, but it wasn't until I loaded them on my tablet that I could see they were in the process of hatching. Welcome to the world, lacewing larvae! They are wonderful little killers 😊 San Antonio, Texas USA on 18DEC2023.
A wonderful Pholcus phalangioides, long-bodied cellar spider, in my bedroom in Kennebunk, Maine USA on 25JUN2021. How many of you grab step stools to get photos when you see a spider in your room? Just me? 😅
Baby jumper (Phidippus sp.) 24JUL2022. I can't figure out who this kid is, but trust me, it's a juvenile jumper. Lafayette, Colorado USA
Zebra jumper (Salticus scenicus) male on a wall in Boulder, Colorado USA on 27MAY2023. Looking back and finding some older photos I had not shared berore.
Found this little juvenile male Phidippus audax in the stairwell at work last night. I put some water on a paper towel and gave him a drink (first picture.) I hope he appreciated it! Boulder, Colorado USA on 14DEC2023.
One of the Pardosa sp. spiders from 15MAY2023. I guess I never posted if here after I asked for ID help. Here's a spider, folks.
Male Platycryptus undatus on...my hand. He climbed all the way up my arm and onto my back/shoulder. These guys are curious and fearless. Dallas, Texas USA on 20NOV2023.
Male Platycryptus undatus on a fence railing. Dallas, Texas USA on 20NOV2023. Those eyes and eyelashes 😍
Nobody will help me ID this spider, so I'm going to say it is a bronze jumper female, Eris militaris. Cutie. 20NOV2023 in Dallas, Texas USA.
We're all trying here, folks.
More Platycryptus undatus (tan jumper) photos from Dallas, Texas USA on 20NOV2023. There were a lot of them once I figured out where they were at! So you get photos.
Hai, guys! Hentzia palmerum giving me a wave. Dallas, Texas USA on 20NOV2023.
A new-to-me spider: Hentzia palmerum, a long-jawed jumping spider. Note the long jaws 😅 This one climbed on me and my camera for a while. Cutie pie. 20NOV2023 in Dallas, Texas USA.
If I said this wasn't one of my favorite photos I've taken, I'd be lying. Platycryptus undatus, tan jumping spider, on a concrete bridge post in Dallas, Texas USA on 20NOV2023. This was a huge male. You can discern that from the orange under the eyes; females have white. I think it wanted to fight me 😅 If you zoom in, you can see some iridescence on the visible fang.
Here's me watering that Hololena hola male with a wet Q-Tip again. About as bad of a photo I'm willing to share, but I didn't get a good chance to zoom and focus before Ella ran over to see what was going on. This time he was under a piece of cardboard and ran off when I picked it up, so I took the opportunity to wet his whistle. Lafayette, Colorado USA on 18NOV2023.
Here's that male Hololena hola that has been running around my walls. This is a much better photo than the Q-Tip ones from the other day. This was my first photo taken using my Olympus LG-1 LED Macro Ring Light on my TG-6. It's kinda alright. Not washed out or over-saturated. I think I'll take some more with it installed so I can get used to it. Lafayette, Colorado USA on 17NOV2023.
I still think this is a Pelegrina sp. female jumper that was hanging out on me in Boulder, Colorado USA on 22JUL2023. I posted one picture back then, but I just saw this in my camera roll and wanted to share. Cutie!
I going to go out on a semi-educated limb and say this is a male Hololena hola wolf spider in my stairwell last night. Sorry for the yellow lighting; the stairwell is not well-lit. Second photo is him drinking off a wet Q-Tip. I thought he looked thirsty, so I gave him a sip 😊 Lafayette, Colorado USA on 15NOV2023.
