When training a hitter's bat speed we want to optimize for moving fast.
Hitting Trainer John Soteropulos breaks down how we train bat speed here at Driveline by showing the tools we use and what the environment looks like.
The PlyoVelo calculator helps provide direction and context as to what focus may benefit the athlete the most. Input your data and the calculator will suggest overload, underload, or standard set. With these added balls, we have more plyo options that allow us to program more focused overload and underload phases without sacrificing weight variability.
This is what it's like to train with us.
Our four new plyos are available now!

NEW BLOG: Why did we make new plyos?
In 2019, one of our Pitching Trainers began using hitting plyos as a means to prescribe an overload throwing phase.
Fast forward a few years of experimentation, and an expanded plyo set was born.

“Smash Factor Balls are the best new training tool available to hitters of all levels, hands down. The precise contact required to hit these makes them a tremendous tool for developing bat to ball skills. It’s like a hitting plyo except you use them off the machine at game speeds.
“On top of that, it allows guys to swing with intent off the machine without the fear/pain of getting jammed or hitting it off the end of the bat. Our hitters love them and we hit them every day.”
- Jason Ochart, Hitting Coordinator, Philadelphia Phillies

Palm-Up/Palm-Down med ball throws are great for teaching hitters how to side-bend with their torso during the swing phase.
When you think of baseball drills, you often think of something repetitive and focused on perfecting mechanics—something you need to do over and over again until you get right. But baseball is much more dynamic than just repeating the same thing over and over.
Not all drills need to look like this. Reconsidering what a drill can be and understanding how engaging competition and games can be for youth players can open up a wide range of options to make practice fun and productive.
We want to make practice and skill development more engaging by introducing rules, point systems, and competition around the Skills that Scale. We want to make sure we’re training skills that will be impactful today and in the future.

What is Smash Factor?
Smash Factor is a metric used to assess a hitter's bat-to-ball skills. By measuring the quality of contact and the ability to make contact, smash factor gives the best evaluation of a hitter's bat-to-ball skills.
Smash factor measures the collision efficiency of the ball and ball at contact, essentially telling us how much of a swing’s bat speed was converted into exit velocity.

Introducing TRAQ Premium
A new tier to plug in customized solutions based on your biggest needs. Get more time to do the things that make your program great.
Over the past few months, we’ve been working on our platform to help organizations train athletes better. We built TRAQ mainly out of frustration. Technology enables more objective training plans and feedback. But each piece of tech is a new job.
Time spent wrangling tech and sending it to players took away from the limited time with athletes.
TRAQ makes it so we no longer juggle spreadsheets to track data from multiple sources. If that sounds familiar, TRAQ might be for you.
With TRAQ, you can custom program a whole team, facility, or organization in minutes. Spend more time training your athletes.
