I have been asked many times how I get into IT, but I don't have a lot of extra money and can't afford to go back to school. For better or worse this is my advice. Get on Amazon and buy a $50 A+ certification guide. Work through all of it to completion and understanding and you will have a solid foundation of basics. It could take a year, but work through it. My advice is to make a plan to do one chapter a day and know that is overzealous so when it takes a bit longer for chapters you won't feel like you're losing. Once you've completed that to understand if you can afford it take the exams to get certified. There are two exams and if you get the package that includes a free retake if you don't pass the first time it'll be around $600 for exams. A+ can be enough to get an entry level IT help desk job. Then continue, even if you don't get certified continue. Then I recommend taking Microsoft fundamentals courses. The coursework is online and free and from what I've seen the exams cost $100. But, you can do live training day events with Microsoft for free at the end of which you can get a voucher code for 50% off, bringing it down to $50 for an exam. And, this is your base, from there go wherever you're interested.

So, you have a NAS (Network Attached Storage) that is old enough no current browsers will accept the security protocol to connect to the admin console. What do you do? I'm going with installing an older version of Windows that I have on a Virtual Machine with the VNIC bridged to the physical network adapter. Nerd Life.
Trying out Revelations The Demon Slayer on my legit AGS 101. Perfect.
Testing out the the cover art for a case I redesigned today. Also, testing out the game on a custom GBA I modded to make sure it works. The case will use better paper and be machine cut, this is just a rough fit. The first change and I think only change is changing some black text on the back label to white.
A sneak peek at my new acquisition that will go on the store after cleaning and functional verification. I also plan to make a custom case to include with it. For the Game Boy Color, Revelations: The Demon Slayer! A rare GBC game I can't wait to work on.
Apparently the people who put on the local convention have split up. Who wants to join me in TRI Cities TN to put on a better annual convention?!?!?
One of my favorite cult PC RPGs.
A+ Core 2 exam completed and passed today. Both exams at first attempt, so I'm happy with that. Don't underestimate the A+ Certification, it covers a LOT of stuff, not in depth but a kind of know a little about everything deal. It certainly earned my respect. But, on to further education and certifications!
A+ core 1 down. Getting ready for core 2.
RIP innovator.

Some advice. I've been asked multiple times, "I want to get into programming, which language should I learn first?". My answer, It doesn't matter, pick one and go after it. Programming is all the same on a logic basis, the only difference is syntax. So, pick one you want to go with and buckle down and learn it and the logic behind programming, and you can pick up new languages relatively quickly.

The full scoop on the machine I built about 6 or 7 years ago I think, closer to 6 I think. Pretty standard, but the first liquid cooling loop I ever designed and built. It was fun to figure out, and I am completely happy with it. With a custom liquid cooling loop you will you have more fans than air cooling (with the radiator(s) and all), but it remains quieter. In all this time my fans haven't ever raised above 25% speed, except startup. On startup of the machine the fans run at full power for a second until the controller kicks in, and yes that is loud. Other than that, the only way I've ever heard it is sitting right next to it, get a foot away and it's silent. Liquid cooling is superior IMO, but you have to do it right and takes some planning!
Granted, I could make some changes and have it score better I'm sure. But, 5, 6, 7, however long ago it was, years ago I was doing a semi-budget gaming PC build. So, some things where cheaper versions, but I did splurge on some things. The graphics card....well you can keep what you have, I'll keep my 1080TI liquid cooled and overclocked, it's ran everything I've thrown at it wonderfully and on the used market is selling for more used than I paid new. I am considering an upgrade in RAM though, until I saw the price to upgrade my ram from 32GB to 64GB of the same speed and latency DDR4, I'm happy with what I have lol.
