Special weekend for the Kingston Guards. The Guards are named after the 120th New York Infantry regiment who mustered in Kingston and were originally tasked with guarding Washington, D.C., earning them the nickname the 'Washington Guards.' They eventually made their way to Gettysburg where they fought valiantly.

We had the chance this weekend to travel to Gettysburg and play against the The Eclipse Base Ball Club of Elkton. We had the opportunity to experience the famed 'Gettysburg Bounce' firsthand, and then made a pilgrimage of about 2 miles from the field to the monument for the 120th. Incredible experience. Huge thank you to Elkton for hosting and we hope to be back again next year!

It's time for a Kingston Guards Player Profile! This week, we're featuring Drew 'Dutch' Vreeland, an original member of the team who often plays in the outfield. He's not afraid to get his jersey dirty and is known as a true gentleman in a gentleman's game. Off the field, Dutch is known as a man who idolizes the eccentric Rube Waddell, loves animals, and the occasional cold beer. Two cheers for Dutch! ⚾️

Fun was had by all at a double-header between our Kingston Guards and the chaps from Delhi known as the Polecats Vintage Base Ball Club - feat. The Hamden Nine

Thank you to all the cranks who came to support the team on our home turf.

Two of our Guards participated in A Pitch for 'Doc' Adams Event at historic Doubleday Field. They joined our comrades from Delaware County and our neighbors in Saugerties in a spirited match.

A shout-out to our Gravity Control volunteers who work hard to keep our "race" course safe! This year we welcome the Kingston Guards Vintage Base Ball to our gravity control team! They are named after the Kingston Guards from the 1860s. Another great summer pastime!

Ample parking available for zeppelins, ornithopters, and dirigibles of all variety. (Horseless carriages may be accommodated as well.)

The Guards had a good showing in Fleischmanns this Sunday against the formidable Mountain Athletic Club. The M.A.C. came away with the victory in both the 1895 and 1864 contests, but after being defeated at the M.A.C. Grounds by over 20 runs last season the Guards were proud to keep the run differential at a respectable 10!

Moral victories aside, it was a wonderful day for baseball with an excellent group of ballists. Stay tuned for details on our next game in June against the Saugerties Vintage Base Ball Club!

Thanks for the great photos Jon Palmer and Dan Torres!

Thankful to have perfect weather this Saturday for the Friends of Historic Kingston Clean Sweep! A few of the Guards and family cleaned up the Herzog's field and surrounding area, and Dutch may have won the Biggest Piece of Trash Award for hauling this old Trailways sign out of the woods in center field. Just a few more weeks until opening day!

Vintage Base Ball was alive and well tonight in the Hudson Valley as ballists from the Saugerties Vintage Base Ball Club and the Kingston Guards Vintage Base Ball converged on the field for a joint practice of 1864 base ball.

It was wet, and the mud was plentiful but the strikers took the hurlers to task and all the ballists left with sore hands!

Come see the two teams clash in a match game of base ball on June 3rd, 2PM at Marbletown Park - 350 Tongore Road, Kingston!

This Saturday at 2pm!

Ulster County Historical Society and Museum is hosting a Vintage
Baseball Game on September 10 (raindate Sept. 11) at 2:00pm with the Binghamton Crickets taking on the Kingston Guards. It will be held at Marbletown Park at 350 Tongore Road. An old-time baseball game is old-time community fun. Step back in time and see how base ball was played 150 years ago. Vintage uniforms, 1800s rules (no gloves), and old-fashioned thrills for the whole family!

Big thanks to the Mountain Athletic Club Vintage Base Ball for hosting us in Goshen today! We lost 10-2 and Dutch took one off the chin, but bumps and bruises are part of the game. We’re learning a lot and can’t wait to get back out there on June 26th in a rematch against the MAC. Stay tuned for details, and mark your calendars!
