The Nourished Soul Doula

9 years ago today after a very long 3 day labor I met my Luca earth side.

Luca “bringer of light”. How that name has always suited you. You bring so much to light in this world with your tenacious spirit and your heart of gold.

It’s hard to believe that when this picture was taken I had no idea what a doula was, no concept of HypnoBirthing, I was not a yoga teacher or a childbirth educator, I didn’t do Hypnotherapy, I did not consider myself a healer. I was just a young mother with a deep love for her child, I had no idea what I was doing, but somehow I knew I could do it.

Motherhood pushes you to go beyond your limits - to find the strength of a lioness again and again. How is it that one tiny human can bring out so much courage? The work of motherhood is not for the faint of heart. It’s lots of deep breaths, and parenting books, lots of “I’m sorry, let’s try that again.” Lots of inner child work. Lots of late night feedings, late night bedtime songs and tuck ins, again and again. Sometimes it’s late nights cleaning up vomit 😂. It’s lots of late night dishes and clothes folding. Work that’s almost invisible to the outside world. Its stretch marks and stained clothes, and cry’s in the shower. But it’s also..beautiful, like REALLY beautiful, it’s the deepest love you will ever feel. It’s finding respect and love for your body and the amazing things it can do- like carrying groceries and your baby up the stairs. It’s the sweetest baby smell (trust me your baby’s head is the sweetest smell in the whole wide world). It’s falling asleep with your little one on your heart and not wanting to move. It’s giggling, and rediscovering the wonder in the world as if for the first time. It’s splashing in puddles and catching fireflies. It’s playing in the dirt, it’s answering soulful questions about the world that you didn’t think you knew….and sometimes YOU DON’T KNOW ..so you look it up ..or circle back to it after a long meditation 😂. (More in the comments cause I’m long winded tonight 😂)

The calm after the storm. The raw beauty of this picture takes me back to that palpable moment, the warmth felt through her calm expression seems to say “we did it”. .

From the moment Janie contacted me, I knew she had the spirit of a wild woman. Fierce, loving, resilient, strong. I could feel the deep love she had for her baby. This photo was taken just after this incredible woman cut the cord HERSELF and welcomed her baby girl earth-side like a freaking pro. I get the goosies just thinking about it.

Birth is a journey, it’s work, it’s transformation- but it’s so worth it; because every time a child is born, so is a mother. 💗

I am thrilled to announce that I will be holding my next HypnoBirthing course in Coronado California! 🌊 Thursday’s, January 4th- February 1st 6:30-9 pm.

I Have taught Many HypnoBirthing Classes, but this particular one has special meaning to me as I continue to settle into my practice here in California. I often tell my families that “Birth is Like the Ocean, you cannot control it, but you can learn to sail through her waves”. And here I am about to teach class on Coronado Island with the Ocean all around me. Mother Nature has a way of reflecting back to us the deep beauty of life.

It brings my heart so much joy to now be offering postpartum doula services that allow families to connect! And what a gift it is to learn these kinds of little cooking tips and feel the warmth and energy of new life in the home.

I have been mostly vegan for YEARS and just recently learned this incredible hack from an amazing woman and postpartum client while making her lovely little family some butternut squash soup. All of those veggie scraps you have, the end of celery stocks, the tops of peppers and the peel on the onion can be turned into tasty vegetable broth! I juice A LOT, and therefore have lots of veggie scraps so this is something that I will now be using often in my own home!

So thankful for the opportunity to support new parents and help around the home during their few weeks after delivery. This might look like baby wearing while the new mama rests, making meals so baby and parents can bond and heal, keeping up with the laundry or doing a grocery run so that the new family can stay cuddled in their nest.

I will never get over how much I love being a doula. It fills me up.

This little one has one of the STONGEST mamas I have ever seen. 💪 It was such an honor to be present for her labor and birth.

You would think it would get old but it doesn’t, every birth I go to I fall more and more in love with being present during these sacred moments. Somebody pinch me so I know it’s real. 💗

Hi, I’m Mary! I could not be more thrilled to be joining Moonlight Midwife as a midwife assistant. Supporting women through birth is in my soul and brings me so much joy. As a mother and birth doula I know how crucial support is during pregnancy birth and postpartum, and I am honored to be joining such a wonderful team!  

A little about me -I discovered my love for birth during my two-year internship with the Wellness Institute in Issaquah Washington studying transpersonal psychology and hypnotherapy. I took a special interest in the way our birth stories affect our lives and fell in love with supporting mothers through labor and birth. In addition to Heart Centered Clinical Hypnosis and Life coaching for mothers and new parents, I went on to become a Certified Birth Doula and HypnoBirthing childbirth educator and have been supporting mothers as a doula since 2020.

My greatest gift in life is being a mom to a big hearted, silly, almost 8-year-old boy who is my world and my biggest source of inspiration. I am also a dog mom to a 2-year-old wildly loving golden retriever. The three of us love to hike, bake, and watch Star Wars together.

I have to brag on this incredible couple and their sweet little. 💗 (I can’t even with her cuteness!!)

I had the honor of teaching them HypnoBirthing and it was not only an absolute blast, but also beautiful to see the connection they share and the love they had for their sweet intuitive baby girl even before she came earth side!

I love to see my clients feel empowered and informed as they step into the birthing process, knowing the stages of labor, physiology of the uterus, breathing techniques and comfort measures for any birthing situation.

I saw this mama overcome fears and climb mountains! She experienced a beautiful belly birth in a calm grounded environment calling on her breathing and meditation techniques to experience the miracle of life with the support of her rock star husband by her side (who even made sure they kept her placenta!)

Partners, your support makes all the difference! I love to see birthing mothers and their partners advocate for themselves and speak up for what they are looking for in their birth experience.

Wanted to hop on here and wish you all a happy Easter before we walk into a new day!

During this season of rebirth I can’t help but think about how this human, right here, pushes me to begin again every day. To rebirth my dreams into reality. To know that it’s never to late to try again. Not because he is difficult, but because his soul holds so much wisdom and light that I can’t help but feel he is reminding me of my own inner light. That maybe if we took a deeper look at children that we would all feel this way.

This little man is something else. He reminds me that when there are mountains that won’t move, to have the strength to climb over them. He pushes me to find the courage of a lioness deep within my soul. His joy and laughter light my heart up like a firefly. His wisdom awakens my own, and his heart 💗 is bigger than the world. 🌍

This human right here, he is my miracle and I forever be grateful to be his Mommy.

Sometimes I think to myself “I can’t wait to see what he does in this world” and then I realize I am already seeing it, each and every day.

If you are struggling out there, whoever you are-
Remember that tomorrow is a new day, and that every day, every hour every minute you get to try again. And in this way you can be reborn.

Sweet boy, your Mama and I talked about you being an Aquarius for months 😂

Your family waited, and waited for you. Your wise Mother felt of your calm gentle soul and knew not to push you, she waited and let you tell her when YOU were ready to come.

Throughout pregnancy water was something that soothed her, brought her peace and connected her with your sweet soul growing within her womb.

When February 18th rolled around we laughed and said of course! The boy who loves the water, he has been a Pisces all along!

On February 21st you began to make your journey earth-side, one wave at a time.

Calm soul, What I remember most about your sacred birth is your mother’s tranquility and patience. She protected her peace in such a calm yet firm way, she let you come gently. Your Daddy’s grounded energy attentive throughout the whole process.

Even as thing sped up a bit there at the end 😉! I saw the strength of every mother before and after her in your Mommy’s eyes, as she gathered her divine feminine strength from the depths and brought you powerfully into this world! Your bag of waters making its debut before you! 🌊 🤩

After feeling of your calm spirit each time I met with your Mum, what an honor it was to finally meet you!

Oh little one, you are surrounded by peace, you have big love in this world, so many who will be present for you.

The boy who loves the water, bringer of peace. Kaizen. 🙏🏻🌊💙

Goddess belly. Sacred keeper of life. Mama earth. So many things came to my heart as I decorated this Mother’s perfect belly with henna.

It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. As I decorated her belly we laughed, we talked and we connected. I spoke to her baby and he responded by dancing in her womb and pressing on the exact area I was decorating almost the entire time!

It felt so primal, natural and earthy.

The western culture often does things to welcome babies earth-side, but often forgets to honor the sacred vessel which carried grew and nourished these babies, their Mothers!

Our bodies are amazing temples deserving of love, care and recognition.

Henna is now something I will be offering as part of what is called a Mothers Blessing Ceremony, more on this to come. 💗

I am so honored to witness such connection in life’s most sacred intimate moments.

This little boy is blessed with so much love. His mother was a freaking rockstar, she stuck to her birth wishes, faced her fears and breathed love to this perfect little bundle of joy through the whole process!

What I will always remember most about this birth is how both parents continually talked to their little boy to guide him earth-side, reassuring him through the induction process.

As this little soul lay new and fresh on his mothers chest, soaking up her unconditional love - he also connected with his daddy. The moment this little boy’s father but his hand on him he reached out and held onto his finger. Looking toward his voice. 😭

Partners, your baby knows you, you are an intricate and intimate part of their journey earth-side. What a beautiful welcome to earth this boy had, to be surrounded by such security and love from the very beginning. 💗

Look at this gorgeous placenta!!

This sacred organ keeps your baby nourished throughout its entire duration in the womb.

While in the womb the placenta acts as your baby’s oxygen supply through the cord, It also filters out waste and delivers nutrients and antibodies to your perfect little one. 💖 Many people also believe this is where the symbol of the tree of life first came from.🌳✨

While I have always been fascinated by the placenta this was my first time working with one personally.

As I cleaned and prepared it, I felt an overwhelming gratitude for this sacred organ which nourished such a special little boy while in his mommy’s womb.

Many women find numerous benefits from consuming their placentas including increased milk supply, increased energy, decreased healing time and are less likely to experience postpartum depression.

This time around I prepared a smoothie for the rock star mama using a small piece of her placenta along with wild blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, banana and coconut water.
