⚡️ Vanessa Chan, Chief Commercialization Officer for the Department of and Director of the Office of Technology Transitions, announced six vouchers worth a collective $1 million at the Spark Innovation Center at the University of Tennessee Research Park. The six vouchers went to three local startups, FC Renew, Electro-Active Technologies and EKAMORE along with three to Oak Ridge National Lab.
🤝 ’s Innovation Week is coming up in Nashville February 26 - 29. The 4-day event showcases the state’s technology innovation and entrepreneurship wins. PiperComm will be in attendance to support TAEBC’s Energy Network.
🏆 Wärtsilä recently hosted the Battle of Technologies! The competitors, Reciprocating Engine and Aeroderivative Turbine, faced off against each other in efficiency, plant operations, and flexibility.

The expansion adds more than 150,000 square feet to Genera’s existing facility and will house more than 60 robotic thermoforming machines, a fleet of autonomously guided vehicles, and automated packaging lines.
🏆 The University of Tennessee Research Foundation hosted its annual Innovation Awards in Knoxville this week. UTRF recognized seven licensed technologies, and 37 issued patents, and four UTRF-related startups, including pitcher Orion Theraputics and winner !
UTRF also inducted Dr. Alan Solomon into its Hall of Fame!

🌱 The UT Research Foundation recently licensed technology to Sustainable Logistics, a data services company providing sustainability insights in the truck transportation space. Alex Scott, associate professor and Gerald T. Niedert professor in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, founded Sustainable Logistics after developing the Fleet Sustainability Index, a data service that provides carbon emissions factors for nearly every trucking fleet.
📈 2024 is expected to be a critical year for the successful deployment of the technologies that will drive the clean energy transition. According to the White House, over $300B in federal funding from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has already been delivered to states and localities in the form of grants and tax incentives. Now states, local officials, developers, utilities, and community stakeholders must continue to take advantage of these new and existing resources.
