We activated a passive radon system at this property and immediately found that the builders pipe had a problem.

Builders are required to install passive radon mitigation system piping during construction.

Unfortunately, many times they are installed incorrectly. If a fan is installed in the future to activate the system, it may not work correctly because of the installation errors with the pre-installed piping.

On this project, we had to dig out the builders pipe and correct the issues at slab level. Once we made our adjustments, we got the air flow that was necessary to reduce indoor radon levels.

Another radon system installation for our clients in Athens. We incorporated the suction for our system with the foundation drain. This helped us bring down the radon levels by using the drain tile around the perimeter to improve air flow.

We brought the levels down from 17 to 1.2 pCi/L. Those levels should continue to be reduced as the soil below the slab dries out.

We routed the piping through the garage and out the rear exterior wall, so it would be mounted with the other mechanical equipment. Out of sight, out of mind.

We installed this radon mitigation system for our clients in Fox Den this week. We were able to keep the fan and piping tucked away behind the shrubs, so it's hidden from view. We also were able to get good suction over the entire 2000 foot basement slab by strategically placing the suction pit near the plumbing drain.

This house is only a few years old. The trusses are getting saturated with water during the summer because of condensation forming on the air duct. As long as the outside air is allowed into the crawlspace, the condensation will continue.

This will eventually become a structural problem, as the truss weakens over time - causing the floor system to sag.

To correct this problem, the crawlspace should be sealed off to prevent the outside (hot and humid) air from entering the space.

We were contacted by a builder to activate a passive radon pipe. The home was recently tested and had high levels of radon, so we attached a vent fan to the passive piping in the attic. We are running a follow up test now to verify the system is reducing levels to an acceptable range.

It's that time of year that HVAC systems are being turned on to cool our homes. If you have a crawlspace, you are going to start lowering the surface temperatures below your home. In vented crawlspaces, this will allow the outside (hot and humid) air to reach dew point on the surfaces in the crawlspace - resulting in condensation and eventually mold growth.

What happens in the crawlspace can and typically does find it's way into the interior of the home. This can wreak havoc on indoor air quality. That's where we come in.

Our client needed help with his crawlspace, so we came in and designed a system and approach to address everything. Humidity, mold, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency.

The guys knocked this one out of the park!

Want more accurate radon test results? If it's possible, opt for Long-Term testing (90 or more days) over short-term testing (48 hours). Give us a call and we'll help ensure you are getting accurate radon measurements.

A good gravel base below the slab is key for radon system performance. Air (and radon) have a hard time moving through red clay. A good gravel bed will allow for better air movement, resulting in more radon being removed from below the slab.

We suspected a disconnected dryer vent above the ceiling in this garage. We opened up the drywall and confirmed our suspicion.

Now it's time to make the repairs: connect the vent with the appropriate fittings and then reinstall the drywall.

Just a few steps left to have this system installation complete. We're running a follow up test to ensure the radon levels are below 1 pCi/L.

We'll swap out the black ferncos and install white ones to match the piping. A little cleaning and touch up painting on the inside as well.

Having a radon system installed in your home should be a good thing. But if you have unsealed openings in your slab, you could make your energy bills skyrocket!

Here's an excellent example of an unsealed opening in a concrete slab below a bathtub. If a radon system is installed in this home, this hole will need to be sealed. Otherwise, the conditioned air will be pulled into the slab and discharged outside.

This would prevent the system from reducing radon effectively, but it would also cause energy bills to be higher because the conditioned air would be sucked out of the home.

When installing a radon system, be sure to pay attention to all aspects of the installation. The installation process should involve putting the system in place and (and sometimes more importantly) sealing openings in the slab.
