Decreasing Jumping by Teaching Movement for Greetings
Many clients want their dogs to sit calmly for all greetings. Energetic young dogs who have already learned to jump on people need to learn alternate ways to calmly greet people. This video highlights calm movement around a person's legs that also decreased the likelihood of jumping.

My Dog is Friendly! How to ensure consent of a dog-to-dog introduction
My Dog is Friendly! How to ensure consent of a dog-to-dog introduction.
Even though a dog is friendly, it's not always clear how and when to introduce them to other dogs so the interaction goes well for all involved. People often let the dogs determine the success, but with many dogs, that is not always the best choice. This video outlines the best case scenario to teach an eager dog patience when greeting others.
Client coaching - practicing leash skills
Practicing Leash Skills
This young pup and her owner are still learning how to navigate walking in new and busy environments. This video highlights the necessary focus required where both ends of the leash have to master their skills. Short sessions offer handlers dedicated time to observe and modify subtle movements of their dog without the added stress of actually needing to purchase something as well! Find a friend and hitch a ride on errands, incorporating training time along the way! If you don’t try, you will never know how to improve.
Step 2 Teaching a dog to move with their leash
Teaching a dog to move with their leash - Step 2
Do not start this step until your dog has easily mastered Step 1 in at least 3 different environments. This video outlines the next step of attaching the leash to a regular collar to get your dog to move with you.
Step 1 Teaching a dog to move with their leash
Teaching a dog to move with their leash - Step 1
Many owners struggle with teaching their dogs to walk nicely on a leash. The first step is to teach them to move WITH their leash vs. using the leash to HOLD our dogs in place. It's best to practice this in a quiet environment first. This video outlines how to start leash skills while being stationary and having our dog move around us.
Steps 1 through 4, flirt pole chase toy training(1)
Exercise and Train with a Flirt Pole (Steps 1-4)
Using a flirt pole is an amazing way to provide mental and physical exercise for dogs. It is best to use it with a specific purpose. This video outlines the necessary steps of using this toy to improve dogs' impulse control.
Monty practicing “wait” and “get it” for a high value toy
This video was made for a client who was struggling with playing fetch with their 5-year-old mix breed. He loves balls, but often steals them from other dogs and doesn't bring them back to their owner. This shows how to implement more impulse control during play and ways to practice in a quieter environment before adding other dogs to the situation.
Indy and Apollo Sessions 2 & 3
This is a continuation of client coaching with Indy and Apollo. It further demonstrates how to know your own dog, be their advocate, and create a safe environment where they have a choice to interact with another dog or not.

🎬Realtime Training Session: Indy and Apollo Slower Re-introduction: These two dogs had previously met, but the introduction didn't go well. Their guardians are friends and had hoped the dogs would be too, so they reached out to me for help. One dog is more reserved and the other likes to come in strong and fast. This video (and the two more that follow) documents a slower approach where both dogs have time to get used to each other. Just like people, sometimes we need multiple introductions before we determine if we want to be friends. #positivedogtrainingmethods #positivedogtrainingtips #dogtrainingvideo #dogtrainingvideos #dogtraining101 #positivedogtrainingworks
Growing patience for food
Growing patience for food - At 7 months old, Trooper LOVES his food! Having a short training session with him before each meal taught him that patience and calm behavior wins the game! By engaging his brain and asking him to perform more than one obedience cue for an entire bowl of food, decreases such nuisance behaviors as jumping and demand barking out of excitement. It also slows down the eating process. You can feed your dog a few pieces of kibble for proper responses to cues until your dog learns to perform a "chain" of behaviors (sit, down, stay, etc.) for the entire bowl.
Determining calmness distance
Determining calmness distance: In each new place we take our dogs, (literally EVERY time we get them out of the car or go on a walk) we have to help them learn how to regulate their energy level and reward their ability to remain calm for longer and longer periods of time. We also have to learn to read the body language of our own dogs to keep them under the threshold, so the learning can continue. This video shows the progression of Simba remaining calm and getting closer to a distraction.

Oberon - getting into a car
Oberon Overcomes His Fear of the Car!
Some dogs have a fear of jumping into a car. If the process is taught in short, 3 minute training sessions where they can get in and out without going anywhere, success can be achieved rather easily.

Here's Ms. Peanut getting to know her new friend Barry, Frosted Faces Foundation. She is learning to say hello, then is rewarded by walking away. Sometimes when we come on too strong, scuffles are the result. Brief "Hello's" among people and dogs is key and we all need to practice just walking away....
